YMCA of Knox County — Local services in Galesburg

Rates are high and hours are horrible for the price. They offer no special memberships for returning college students (instead they must pay an upfront new member fee of $60, even if they have been a member before, on top of a summer membership) or Reserve/National Guard Soldiers. I have been told they have reduced membership for active duty soldiers, yet the nearest active duty base is in Rock Island, which has a a free gym for soldiers on base. It wouldn't make any sense for an active duty soldier to travel all the way to Galesburg YMCA. Hours are horrible, especially in the summer. Weekend hours end at 4 and 5 p.m. Every holiday possible is taken off. A camera system is already in place, why not introduce a key card system when the building is...

Beware of this place. Staff are incompetent and extremely rude. Adam lied directly to my face about why they stole an extra $32 from me. I called to confirm they took my payment out. I was told they had, 2 days later they took out an extra $32 and said it was a late fee. When I confronted Adam about this he claimed it had to be my bank that did it. I contacted my bank and they denied it and said it was the ymca who stole the money. I went in person on 3/1/25 and canceled my membership. They took money out on 4/1 due to their 30 day cancellation policy. Then today they stole another $45 from my account. Be VERY careful using this place! My family and I have been members of and on for 30 plus years. I taught fitness classes there for 23 of those years, hosted fundraiser, did personal training, and gave countless donations. After putting my membership on a 6 month hold I was denied access for a 3 day pass to work out while I was in town. I emailed them the situation as I was unable to cancel it online.
