My family and I have stayed at this location on several occasions in the past under different management and had exemplary experiences. We are saddened to report a severe decline in service. From day one, there was a large broken toenail in our bed under the blankets upon arrival. No staff was available at the concierge to report this to. No housekeeping occurred in our room for our entire stay. The bathtubs had mold in the corners, the shower curtain was stained with mold. The toilets in our room snd in the common area had terrible rings. We booked our room (and paid extra) for three guests and were only provided towels for two and questioned when requesting additional towels. On our third day, we were gone for many hours. We arrived that evening to find our room propped open by the slide lock. We asked at the desk immediately and were told the cleaning staff likely opened our door to provide fresh towels and forgot to close it, but that they shouldn't have opened our door at all because they were no longer offering housekeeping due to labor shortages. No fresh towels were in our room that day, so no explanation for the door being opened. We were gone for NINE hours that day and the desk attendant did not Apologize, accept any responsibility, or take any notes down about what should have been a serious inquiry. Nobody ever followed up to let us know why our room was opened, why it was left open, or how long it was open and unattended for. During our stay we ran in to a fellow customer on five occasions. This customer seemed to be struggling with a substance abuse issue. On one occasion we were concerned for the customer's safety in front of the building so we reported to the desk that he may need assistance. The desk attendant simply stated "oh he's on drugs, we know." Maybe I speak from a place of privilege- but for $150/ night, I would expect standard housekeeping, clean sheets, receptive staff, and maybe just maybe the crusty toenails of the last guest removed from the bed before my arrival. While the room and the customer service were abysmal, I want to be fair and include that the hotel pool was very clean and had a great temperature. Additionally, the continental breakfast and coffee offerings were well thought out and this combined with the pool and central location are what keeps this from being a one star review. My family and I will not return to...
Read moreI travel a lot for work and some hotels are hit or miss. This one had mixed reviews but I gave it a try. Check in was pleasant, the man was very nice. He did advise me I had a HC room and that I probably didnât intend that as the room was booked online but he was all full and had no other rooms. The room smelled horrible as though someone had soiled the bed and thankfully I travel with Febreeze; but it did little to rid the smell. I inspected the room. The bathroom was in need of updating and maintenance; there was rust on the shower head, tissue cover and the towels were stained. The beds looked awful and lumpy and that was found to be due to the comforters. My impression was not good but he told me there were no other rooms and I was only there for a night so I made due. When it came time for bed; an uninvited critter appeared on the bed across from me, a bedbug! At that point I decided to call and see if there was anything they could do as I just wanted to get some sleep without worrying of getting bit. A different man answered the phone and after telling him what happened, he immediately switched me rooms. He was very polite and sincerely apologetic. The second room looked a lot better and updated. I inspected that room and found no signs of bedbugs but I had inspected the other room too. I hoped for the best and thankfully did not wake up with any bites. Breakfast was your standard layout but instead of hot breakfast there were refrigerated breakfast sandwiches and a waffle machine. I was disappointed there was no fruit. Had I been given the second room first; my experience would have been quite different. I appreciated the politeness and promptness from the staff in...
Read moreHad a good night sleep at the AmericInn (Wyndham Galesburg). Mr. Sheth, the general manager, was very accommodating. I called 3 hotels ahead of booking to ask if there was fragrance pumped into the lobby and hallways (as many hotels are doing now as they try to compete with signature fragrances) and whether there was a room available with openable windows, there was! (I canât stand hotel fragrance, also you donât know whatâs in it. Many single essential oils alone have been found to have synthetics, contaminants or toxic ingredients by 3rd party testing and itâs too expensive to pump a fragrance into a hotel day and night if itâs made from essential oils only, so you really donât know what youâre breathing with these hotel fragrances.) Anyway, I was looking for a hotel where I could breathe âuntreatedâ air. He was very understanding, honest and helpful. (2) fragrance squirting devices in the lobby, that was it, not pumped through the HVAC system. Offered to me that I could come check out the hotel and literally choose a room. When we arrived, he showed us the first room and opened the window himself so I could be sure before we said, âyes!â He is also fun-loving and ever present; nothing happens in that hotel without his knowledge. The room was clean, with a large window, plenty of sunlight and a view of a field of wheat or maybe barley; which was just beautiful. Coffee in the rooms and lobby. Went to Judyâs Family Cafe for breakfast the next...
