I am truly disappointed in the cat adoption fair they have on Saturday’s from 12p-3p. It is truly unacceptable for how they treat Colored/Melanin people who are wanting to find the perfect cat/kitten for their home. They don’t greet you with a smile, ask how you’re doing, or if they can be of any assistance. Instead they look at you funny & give you the fakest customer service ever! This is my 3rd (THIRD) time coming to this event to find a black kitten/cat & they have turned me down. On each occasion they have said the black cats I want must go in pairs no other way. I just don’t see how this is possible each time I come & today 3/4/23 the cat I saw & wanted is almost a year old & STILL had to go in a pair with the cat.. “they say”.. The woman that assisted me kept coming up with things just for me not to qualify for the adoption. My sister provided the right documentation showing we have another cat & vet already prepared. So she finally said allow her speak with the director. When she went to the older caucasian women they both looked in my direction & were speaking for almost 2 minutes before they BOTH decided to walk up to us & turn us down. With the same sad excuse for me not to adopt, I am now ONCE AGAIN going home empty handy without my dream kitten. Is it so hard just to adopt & provide a loving home? It’s so sad because it’s so much division with the melanin & Caucasian community & little do they know they come from US. We all spread love the same way & if you have hate in your heart because of skin color then SHAME ON YOU!! I hate to leave a nasty review because PetSmart is a really good store that I love to visit for my bearded dragon however I will not continue to support a store who doesn’t accept MY kind. I will take my business else where. However, please correct the people that are currently working the adoption fair. Horrible experience that I wouldn’t want anyone to go through. Much love.
**UPDATE 03/08/23: PLEASE visit the animal shelter first before coming to their pet adoption event on Saturday’s. The process was so quick & easy. Filled out the adoption forms on site, got my all black cat (Finally!!!) & DID NOT need to get any in pairs. I was able to take my cat home the same day & the process took no more than an hour max. My partner comes here all the time to get food and it’s usually an in and out process. For convenience of getting what you need and buying (literally bare basics) this place gets at least a star. We were approached by a trainer who tried to sell us onto training which is great honestly because it felt welcoming and I know it’s their job so I’m thinking “at least their trying to gain Buisness.” We were told about the deals and such but truthfully we NEEDED training because it would be great to introduce her to the basics and then go with a private trainer after to get into serious work so she can get the best help she needs while still being financially smart. We told the trainer we would think about it and the next day we gave a call to schedule an appointment. Long story short, we called at least 6 times… SIX TIMES.
I left my name, my partners name, my number, her number, and my puppy’s name each time because there was no trainer available to speak. I was promised a call back. I was even told the area code of the trainer so I can be ready. And nothing. I called when the trainer was supposedly coming…. And then they said oh she isn’t there today. (Each day I call though?) hmmm
The only excuse I ever got for not getting a call back for those times I called was “oh it’s probably because she doesn’t work Sunday or Monday. I DIDNT CALL ON A SUNDAY OR MONDAY. I’m so fed up. They don’t deserve our buisness.
Mind you this is our personal experience so if anyone has received great training then I’m happy for you but I would have atleast appreciated someone to tell me “hell nah” than to literally IGNORE US.
We even mentioned on the phone to the employees that “listen we want to do the long run game and are willing to pay for whatever the trainer recommends so no need to give us the sales pitch and try to convince us to buy more or the premium classes because we WILL.”

Read moreDo NOT buy tanks from here. i had bought a ball python along with a 25 gallon tank from here, I already owned two ball pythons from a breeder and wanted I add to the collection. Once I had arrived home and set up the tank and got it all nice and ready to use I noticed there was a huge crack along the side. I took everything out called and they told me I could bring it back since it couldn’t have gotten damaged on the way home. I bring it back up along with the receipt and they tell me there is nothing they can do, I also notice a gap at the top of the cage and ask if it’s something I should be concerned about since the python is still young I worry about him escaping while I’m away at work. They tell me it is nothing to worry about and reassured me my little buddy would be safe. So I take it back home get everything set up all over again and it does well. Until today. Like I thought he would he did in fact manage to escape through the gap at the top. I am very thankful my roommate caught onto what was happening before he went missing in our apartment or our other animals took notice (we have a husky, very sweet just don’t to fond of the new inclusion quite yet) my roommate immediately called and brought the incident to my attention and I got of work to come and help make sure he is safe. Not only did pet smart have tank issues they also didn’t have any information on our new baby’s feeding times as I asked when I purchased him when was the last time he ate depending on pythons they can eat once a week to every other week, to which the employee and several others responded with that they had no idea..
