Edited: I find recent glowing reviews out of nowhere very suspicious considering my own that precedes them lol!
I went with my Mother today, and had an experience I havenāt ever had in my life at an Ulta. We got asked if we needed help finding anything when we first came in and we both replied that we were just looking, which is normal and fine. Within 10-15 minutes we were asked 3 more times. I finally said to the last person, āNo, we do not need help but we will find someone if we do.ā This is all central to the front of the store from Clinique on the South Side of the store to the registers on the North and the associates were all kind of hanging out together so I know they heard each other asking us. It then happens 3 more times within another 10 minutes and my Mom finally asked āIs there something going on?ā out of confusion on why we were being seemingly followed and definitely hounded. After the last time, I just stared at the associate straight in the face and looked to my Mom and said āitās time for us to checkout and leave.ā So I was asked if I needed help, in the same area of a store, 6 or more times at LEAST in a 20-30 minute window. We go to checkout and I am keeping quiet because I donāt want to create a scene by expressing what I felt like was valid frustration and irritation when Iām already visibly upset/frazzled, except to say I had a 20% coupon I wanted to use on an item. The cashier, Samantha, advised I would need to get it from my phone, so I said sure and got on my phone to get the code from the app. As Iām trying to find it and keep composed āPlease click no on the screenā referring to the POS and Iām confused as to why she is like rushing me through this and I say āIām sorry, I am trying to get this code like you asked me to can you give me just a second please?ā Ended up deciding on not even using it because I was so frazzled and just trying to get out of there before I said anything impulsively. Another associate (she said she was an assistant manager later) came in finished the transaction as Iām putting my pin in for the card. After I left, I went back in and asked this Assistant Manager for a managers card or a name/number and she said they werenāt allowed to give it out. (short darkish hair, edgy kind of look) I left frustrated and extremely irritated because I was wondering what I or my Mother possibly could have done to be hounded/borderline harassed like we were and the blatant rudeness at the checkout. My mother and I were in high spirits when we came in and left feeling very differently and were not even finished purchasing some things we had been considering (I just had to place an online order for two things because Iām not going back to this location or any others for awhile). We both have shopped at Ulta very often over the years, and never received treatment like this. We werenāt even asking to be helped we were just looking to not be harassed. We are both Latino and we were in activewear, which I would hope wouldnāt be the reason why we were treated like this but itās the only thing I could think of that would, from the moment we walked in, feel to both of us, as if we were being harassed when we were laughing, smiling and just enjoying each others company while trying to blow some money on something...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUlta Beauty in Derby has consistently been one of my favorite places to shop, and my most recent visit reminded me exactly why. I came in with my granddaughter, and from the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted with genuine smiles and warm energy. That kind of welcome really makes a difference and sets a positive tone.
I was looking for skincare products for aging and sensitive skin, and Kenna who was a kind and knowledgeable associate, took the time to really listen to my concerns. She didnāt just point to a shelf, she walked me through different options, explained the benefits of each one, and then guided me to the area that was best suited for my skin needs. Her honesty, patience, and care truly stood out and made me feel supported the whole time.
My granddaughter was helped by another lovely associate named Cyn, who was just as helpful and sweet. She took the time to walk her through makeup and skincare options that were appropriate for her age and skin type, which made her feel comfortable and confident. It was such a thoughtful and empowering interaction, I really appreciated how both of us were treated with equal kindness and attention.
At checkout, we were helped by Samantha, a sweet and patient cashier who took the time to assist me as I logged into the app and searched for a coupon. She never rushed me and made the whole process stress-free, just another example of the outstanding service at this store.
One thing I deeply appreciate about this Ulta location is the diverse and inclusive team. Itās refreshing to see staff who represent a variety of backgrounds and communities, something you donāt always see in retail. Everyone was genuinely friendly and welcoming, creating an atmosphere where you feel seen, respected, and valued.
The store itself is always clean, well-organized, and easy to shop in. Iāve been a customer here for years, and I can honestly say Iāve never had a bad experience. The honesty, friendliness, and care shown by the team keeps me coming back. Thank you all for making every visit a pleasant one, weāll definitely be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI came to review this place, because I love it. I get asked all the time where I buy my make-up. The staff is great! They never fail to ask if you have been helped or if they can help you find anything. They used to have a great associate that helped me find silicone based make-up. It is amazing. Either she no longer works here, or I missed her. Shame. She was totally great. The only person of color working there. They carry several major make-up lines. They also have salon services in back. They are huge on being clean & sanitary. They even have hand washing stations which is nice. Their store is very nicely kept. You won't find a bunch of damaged testers.
Also, I think the manager thought I was a secret shopper, & she might get in trouble for something? I wanted to take some pictures to show how nice the store is & the services they have. I was approached & told they do not allow photos to be taken in store unless they are of yourself. I had NEVER been told this ever. No problems at all on my last visit. I went online to check to see if this was an actual policy of Ulta's. Nowhere in the multiple places I checked for Ulta's policies was anything posted regarding this at all. This is the only slightly negative experience I have ever had here. I normally buy a few hundred dollars worth of products when I make time to go in. I had a major trip to Vegas I was going to do reviews on. This time, I simply bought & walked out with a solitary bottle of primer. Update Not sure who Ulta's Google manager is but they ended up letting every single one of my photos post to Google...
