The giant panda lives in a few mountain ranges in central China, mainly in Sichuan, but also in neighbouring Shaanxi and Gansu.9] As a result of farming, deforestation, and other development, the giant panda has been driven out of the lowland areas where it once lived.
The giant panda is a conservation-reliant vulnerable species.[10 A 2007 report showed 239 pandas living in captivity inside China and another 27 outside the country.[12] As of December 2014, 49 giant pandas lived in captivity outside China, living in 18 zoos in 13 different countries.[13] Wild population estimates vary; one estimate shows that there are about 1,590 individuals living in the wild,[12] while a 2006 study via DNA analysis estimated that this figure could be as high as 2,000 to 3,000.[14] Some reports also show that the number of giant pandas in the wild is on the rise.[15] In March 2015, conservation news site Mongabay stated that the wild giant panda population had increased by 268, or 16.8%, to 1,864.[16] In 2016, the IUCN reclassified the species from "endangered" to "vulnerable".[11]
While the dragon has often served as China's national symbol, internationally the giant panda has often filled this role. As such, it is becoming widely used within China in international contexts, for example, appearing since 1982 on gold panda bullion coins and as one of the five Fuwa mascots of...
Read moreThis location is the worst dining option in Derby. The service is the main issue which affects every meal at this Panda Express. The servers hurry the customer’s meal choices and get very rude about non-immediate responses to their questions. Deep, dramatic sighs and even deeper stares of irritation are common with this staff, including from managers. They typically are asking the next question about your order before you are even done responding to the previous inquiry, they will abruptly interrupt you if you say anything out of order while in their interrogation process, and they do NOT handle it well if any customer needs a moment to look over the options. This all gives a very rushed and uncomfortable atmosphere, even when they are not busy and the staff outnumbers the guests. This unfriendly and unprofessional attitude consistently given by the counter speaks volumes about the poor management and culture of this business. Derby locals, and visitors from McConnell AFB and Wichita, all deserve better.
Note: my absolute final visit here happened to be when someone drove into the building. This was not any fault of the business, but the experience was still terrible prior to the accident due to such impolite service. Not surprisingly, the lack of leadership was on full display after the incident and luckily for this business, it was customers that handled the situation in...
Read moreI have been to this particular location a few times. Lately, the food and service have been awful. I spent almost $30 on food here today for my company, we go get the food after the time they told us it'd be ready and they made us wait about 10 minutes extra. We get the food to the store and it's not even close to fresh quality. The chicken was burnt and chewy , the rice was so over cooked it was crunchy. 3 grown men refused to eat this food. I call back to complain and the manager said "well thanks for the feedback, I'll talk to my cooks" almost without offering to make it up to us. I told her we'd never eat there again and I would like our money-back. I show up about 2 hours later to get a refund, and wait up front almost 10 minutes. There were 4 employees working and every single one of them completely ignored me standing there waiting for help. They were seriously looking right past me and continued preparing foods. Maybe 3 other people there at this time, not busy. I finally spoke up and asked why I was being ignored, one man came to the counter and asked the manager to talk to me. She took my receipt and issued a refund and had the most unsympathetic look on her face when she "apologized" - long story short, we won't eat...
