Concern Regarding Disrespectful Service at Hamden TJ Maxx (8/16)
I had a very disappointing experience at the Hamden, CT location on August 16th between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM, while shopping in the jewelry and accessories section.
While browsing near the glass case, I pressed the call button to inquire about a Valentino purse. The store associate who responded approached me without a greeting and in a noticeably rude tone asked, âWhat do you want to see?â Despite the lack of professionalism, I proceeded to ask to view the purse.
To my surprise, as she handed me the purse, she kept her hand tightly on the metal chain. I acknowledged this by saying, âOh, youâre holding onto the purse,â to which she replied, âYes, itâs worth $2,300.â (Donât remember the exact retail price she was quoting.) The ticket price was roughly $240.00. The insinuation and her tone were deeply off-putting and made me feel judged and uncomfortable. I had intended to purchase the bag, but I was so taken aback by her behavior that I handed it back. She then responded with a dismissive âsorryâ and placed the bag back in the case.
I felt embarrassed and disrespectedâespecially in front of my childâand frankly, I left the store feeling extremely upset and even discriminated against. After exiting, I called the store and spoke with the manager. She was apologetic and assured me that this experience was unacceptable and not reflective of their standards. She also confirmed the associate I dealt with was the only one working in that section at the time.
While I appreciated the managerâs professionalism, the experience has left a lasting impression. General assurance isnât enough. Iâd like to know what steps will be taken to ensure other customers donât experience the same treatment, especially when it comes to respectful and...
Read moreI used to LOVE this tj maxx because It has a great selection, but I had to come on here and review my recent experience. I bought two purses here and I found another purse I liked at Marshallâs, so I returned to tj maxx to return the purses I purchased. One of the purses was mis-tagged because when I tried to return It, the receipt said I had purchased a Michael kors belt. I told the cashier I did not purchase a Michael kors belt and this was the receipt for the purses I bought. She argued with me and told me if I didnât have the correct receipt I couldnât return the items. I then asked her if I could speak to the manager to which she replied âI could get you the manager, but sheâs just going to tell you the exact same thing I just told you.â I was frazzled and walked out, but then decided to come back in and demand I be able to speak with the manager. The ONLY reason I gave two stars rather than one is because the manager was the KINDEST woman ever, and promptly apologized for the poor customer service and immediately returned the item. I have never been treated this poorly by someone in customer...
Read moreI am not a shopper. I shop only when I need something. I hadn't been in the Hamden TJMaxx for many years, pre-Covid. I needed a bras. The two stars are for the bras department ONLY. What a nightmare! Two rows of racks of two tiers of racks. The lower rack is close to the floor so to move the hangers and check the sizes, one has to bend completely over and stay that way because the sizes are all mixed together. Can we blame the store? More likely it is a customer who puts a bras back, especially on the lower shelf wherever she can fit it rather than looking for the Size sign. But it could be a priority of the manager to have someone take responsibility for putting the sizes in the correct sections so they customer doesn't have to see a chiropractor the next day. And a side comment on the Women's shoes section. Don't put shoes on the very top shelf especially when each of the lower shelves are not even half full. Not every woman is tall enough to reach that shelf. I...
