Found a stray baby kitten on the side of my garage crying, could open his eyes nor walk. It was crawling and the ground was hot. It's was over hundred degrees. Seem to only a few days old but I never had a cat, so I don't know. I called them up and informed them. The lady on the phone seemed really nice. So told me to put it in a box and leave it there, just incase mom came back because it will have a better survival rate. I can somewhat understand that. She said if mom don't come back by 530 to give them a call back and they will send someone to get it or i can bring it in. We put it a box with towels and left it where we located it. After about an hour I called back but they said they had no one to send out. So me and my son brought to them. The lady at the desk seem nice. Two animal control officers came out (a male and female) and looked at us but didn't speak or say anything. The male just stood there for a moment. The female walked around, may have been doing something. I don't see why one of them couldn't come pick up the cat. I'm literally 3 to 5 minutes from the place. Then they make you fill out paperwork. When I returned home, I noticed the mom cat had returned. I called them twice, no answer. Third call they answered. They said they closed in 5 minute and didn't have any traps to catch her. I asked do they want me to come grab the kitten back and give it to mom, they said no because it my not be mom and ill have to feed it every two hours. I took pics of mom and followed her location so they can come catch her and the rest of the babies but I guess no action was taken as she and other spray cats continues to walk the park and neighborhood. I'm not a cat person, I don't have anything against cats just never desired one. I feel I showed more concern for these animals than they did and that bothers me. I sure they get calls all day but as a citizen, I felt I was doing all i could to make their job easier. It's over hundred degrees, I reported the animals, tracked the mother, gave them ID and filled out paper all for nothing it seems. No one reached out. Now it's still a mom that will continue to reproduce. An entire litter that will grow up in a few weeks, spread out and reproduce and continue the cycle when they could stopped it with a little effort of...
Read moreIf I could give this place no stars I would. I went to the harker heights pet adoption center the day before I adopted the cat that I got. The cat was nothing but loving while I was visiting the shelter, I asked the shelter staff if this cat had ever shown any signs of aggression as I have a 15-month-old daughter and I do not want to risk her being attacked by a cat. They assured me that he was nothing but loving, and said that he can sometimes get a little rambunctious so to just keep an eye out for that. Mind you I was holding my 15-month-old daughter when I was talking to them about the cat. I came back the next day to adopt the cat and again the cat was nothing but loving. When it was time to take the cat out of its kennel and put it into the carrying crate I brought, the shelter staff acted like they never put a cat in a crate before or like they were afraid to put this cat in the crate... and asked me to do it. I agreed and I picked him up and put them in the crate and everything was fine we didn't have any problems. Then I took the cat home and he was being very affectionate, very loving, nothing seemed to be wrong. It seemed like they were right he was just an affectionate cat. But out of the blue for no reason whatsoever this cat ran at me full speed, wrapped himself around my leg proceed to scratch kick growl and hiss. If I could post pictures of what this cat did to my foot my heel my leg and my arm I would. it was like this cat was possessed. This is NOT a LITTLE rambunctious. This is full on aggressive and attack mode. looking back it now makes sense why the shelter staff did not want to put him in the kennel. If they had been honest with me I would not have adopted this cat. I'm lucky that it was me and not my 15-month-old daughter. I will be taking the cat back to the shelter today, and asking for a refund. I know that they do not give refunds but I was lied to, clearly lied to. And my daughter was put In harm's way because of their lies. I later was informed by my neighbor who helped get the cat off of me and get him back in the crate, that this shelter is known for doping up their animals to be more docile so they can be adopted. I wish I had known that about this shelter. I'll be...
Read moreTHIS PLACE IS TERRIBLE WE had a pregnant stray cat who came to our house for 2 days and slept under our cars. We gave her food and water. We did intense research on potential places who have low abortion and kill rates. We were worried that she might have kittens out in the neighborhood without proper care. And we felt unprepared to take care of a pregnant cat so we called HH Pet Adoption because they claim to be a no-kill shelter. I called and spoke to Petco who referred this adoption facility. When we called to have someone pick her up we asked about the well-being of her and the kittens and were reassured her and the kittens would be safe and she would have them there. The officer who arrived and picked pregnant mom also reassured us that not only her but her kittens would be safe and taken care of. The 72 hour hold was expalined to us that she was unable to be adopted for at least 72 hours to allow time for the owner (if she had one) to respond and pick her up. So at this point we asked if we could visit her and the kittens once they were born which Officer Ellis said would be ok. They didn't mention anything about the cat having to have her babies in 72 hours that was never mentioned. They take her and say the kittens will not be killed. We came back today to visit momma cat and kittens and they say they aborted the babies. They kept saying stuff like we have no room or our policy is if they don't have their babies in 72 hours they will be aborted. SO PLEASE I BEG YOU DON'T TAKE ANY STRAYS THAT ARE PREGNANT HERE THEY WILL ABORT THE BABIES IF THERE NOT BORN IN 72 HOURS WHICH IS NOT ENOUGH TIME FOR THEM. This would have all been fine if they had been transparent about their policies. Had we been well informed, we would have made alternate...
