Spectrum Health Pennock Hospital: Emergency Room — Local services in Hastings

I had an operation earlier in the day, and was experiencing symptoms that were indicative of infection and possibly sepsis (I am not a medical professional, but I was briefed on the risks following the procedure). I was waiting for SO long to be seen, and was uncontrollably shaking and feverish. When they finally took me back to a room, they put and IV in me and took so much blood. Some staff did a good job giving me blankets, but I was otherwise largely ignored. I was told after 3 hours that they had not run any tests yet, and the ultrasound they had ordered hadn't seen enough of the operating site, and then they ordered a CT scan. Hours later, my pulse was still at 120, my fever still at 104°F, and no one had checked on me in an hour and a half. My doctor was switched mid-visit, and the new doctor had to have me re-explain EVERYTHING to her. She was unaware of any tests having been run and was not aware of the location of the CT results. I called around locally to see where I could get in and there was a multiple hour wait at every ER until I was recommended this one. I checked in and was seen within 10 minutes and every nurse, PA, physician, employee, everyone that I’ve interacted with has been so sweet. Jackie, Casi, Paula, and Brandon are the names that I can remember (there were definitely more but I didn’t catch everyone’s name) they were all so professional and so kind. Doctors offices make me really anxious but the staff here made me feel very comfortable, cared for, and listened to. I would recommend this place to anyone who asked for a recommendation. This is my second time coming to this ER. They are terrible. We got to the desk at 5:30pm. We needed blood work and ultra sound. They finally called us back to a room around 7pm. Both nurses had to poke my wife’s arm multiple times to draw blood. The doctor was nice but he ordered blood work and didn’t order the ultra sound until blood work came back…..ultra sound person is on call. They told us 30min for the ultra sound person to get there when called upon. We are currently still waiting for this to occur and this ultra sound was ordered 2 hours ago. Putting our total wait time at this place at 5.5hrs and counting………… for blood work and an ultra sound.
