Would give them more than 5 if I could. Excellent guide and tour. Our guide, Eric, was informative, funny, and a wealth of knowledge. We saw things we would not have seen if we had ventured out ourselves. Eric's wealth of knowledge about all things Hawai'i was bottomless. We didn't ask him a question he couldn't answer. We talked all things Hawai'i and volcanoes. Eric has witnessed 1st hand several of the recent eruptions and was able to show us those on his phone as well as pointing out where they occurred in the landscape we were visiting. You felt like you were there yourself. Having a field geologist as a guide is priceless. We visited a coffee farm, and although not coffee drinkers ourselves, we found it interesting and educational. The view from Heavenly Coffee is worth the visit all by itself. We stopped in at the black sand beach with has wonderful views as well as green sea turtles. Was excessively windy on the day we were there, however, the warm temperatures made the windy very comfortable. Beautiful water, sand, and sea. We stopped at a little off the beaten path mom and pop shop cafe for lunch. Excellent food. One of the advantages of GeoTours is they provide an actual sit down lunch. Additionally, they provide a variety of drinks and snacks for the stops along the way.
Volcano National Park is amazing. On the day we were there, there were no active volcanoes, however, because Eric had been there during live eruptions, we could see the last and the ending result. The caldera is huge and magnificent. Eric's knowledge of the area garnered additional park visitors. He graciously answered their questions like those of us on tour with him. We ventured down crater rim road, which most visitors miss. An amazing ride. With different age flows to witness. Eric knew the dates and flow ranges for each of the flows. Like I said, he had a wealth of knowledge that made the tour fun and interesting. Our last stop was Rainbow Falls. The Falls are impressive and beautiful with the surrounding creeks. However, our timing was off and the sunlight wasn't at the right angle to produce the rainbows that the falls are known for. Still, a beautiful sight.
GeoTours takes time, care, and investment with their vehicles to do as much as they can to allow comfort for the guests as well as lack of a breakdown on the trip. Not all companies can say that.
If you want a fun, educational, knowledgeable, and personal tour, Hawaii GeoTours is the adventure for you. It is a long day 11-11.5 hours, however, it is work...
Read moreMy husband and I took a Volcano Tour with Hawaii Geo Tours in October 2025 and it was such an incredible experience! It was a very informative and fun day! Not only were we able to enjoy the beautiful island but were educated way beyond what we had expected! Zane is a retired geologist so his knowledge of the volcanoes, landscape and climate of Hawaii was amazing! (along with a lot of other fun facts) His life experiences and love of volcanoes contributed to everything he shared with us! I can’t imagine any other guide that would’ve been able to give us so much information about Hawaii! He was professional, knowledgable, friendly and willing to take photos and answer any questions that anyone had. It was a long day but so worth it if you want to see all the sights that Hawaii has to offer without having to plan out an itinerary of things, figure out where to eat or how to navigate the roads. It was a small group and in a nice, comfortable and clean Mercedes van. Zane also provided lots of drinks and snacks to eat at the stops we made. We stopped at Heavenly Hawaiian coffee farm and we learned a lot about Kona coffee. We were able to taste 5 different varieties of Kona coffee and purchased some coffee beans in their gift shop. We liked it so much that I ended up joining the coffee club once we got home! The lunch at The Rim restaurant was also a nice stop instead of having to pack a lunch. We both enjoyed the Volcano Burgers and fries with the added bonus of a view of the Kilauea caldera while we sat and ate. This lunch was also included in the price of the tour. Zane gave us options when he picked us up in the morning and called the order in so when we arrived, we were able to look around, were seated and was served shortly after. We went to Punaluʻu Beach which is a Black Sand beach and saw turtles, Lava tunnel and many other stops along the way! We even got to stop at a local farmer’s market and got a few things. Zane bought all of us a Hawaiian sweet, tiny banana to try too! (Not sure what the name of it was called) I would highly recommend going on this tour if you want to efficiently experience all that you can and learn all about the island of Hawaii and it’s stunning volcanoes! It was one of the best tours we have ever gone on because of Zane! Book this tour! I promise, you won’t...
Read moreOur tour was excellent. We had David as a guide. David was very knowledgable and taught us a lot about the island. He was friendly and accommodating. We went to Heavenly Coffee in Kona to start the day, learned about the coffee trees, drying process, roasting and got to sample 5 different coffees. We purchased coffee here as well. Black sand beach followed, on the way David gave informative talks about the geology of the island, honestly the long drives passed quickly because of the discussions we had with David. We saw a couple turtles Come to shore on the black sand beach which was amazing. Lunch in Volcanoes national park at Crater rim Cafe was cool because you look at the caldera as you eat. We proceeded through the park, seeing many Lava flows (solidified, no active flows currently) and went through a lava tube. We went to rainbow falls as the last stop before the trek back to Kona. I can’t say enough good about David. He’s a professional who loves what he does and has a fantastic philosophy about life. I recommend this tour! My wife and I had a great time. Also a small group of made it very chill and did not feel crowded. Worth it for sure. Great outfitter and even...
