I came to the Art Academy of Highland Park as a retiree wanting to learn to paint. Ana started me on the basics of drawing and how to turn two dimensional flat drawings into 3D. Those first skills on basic shapes are now ingrained in whatever I undertake. There was a curriculum for the drawing, then water color painting and now in oil painting which I have started. Ana has been amazing all throughout. She teaches the basics and principles and brings in so much from classical art and nature that demonstrates the techniques I work on. Ana is a gifted and inspiring teacher and under her guidance participants embark on a journey that goes deep into the complexity of the creative process. Academy of Art of Highland Park & Gallery Inc. (AAHP) has one of the strongest learning experiences that can be found locally, one of the last of its breed. AAHP has been designed as a special environment where creativity is nurtured, guided, and encouraged with independence. There is a small space where family and friends gather and interact before the students demonstrate their skills and work. The AAHP staff develops a close relationship to the students through paired individual work and are well trained to manage a variety of student needs.
