My wife bought me a pack of three classes as a āstarterā. Sheās been going to CP for years and has over 1,500 classes! (And believe ne you can see the results⦠Which I greatly appreciate! LOL š) And she wanted me to try it out, and I was also curious. And while my first class was confusing and frustrating (when you donāt even know where the straps on the pegs behind your areā¦) and I didnāt feel like the instructor was accounting for the several first timers in the room. He spoke so quickly and used terms I knew nothing about⦠Table Top? Happy Baby??? So, I left the first class pretty unimpressed.
Then, I took the āCenter Of Balanceā class with an instructor named Ina. Wow! What a difference!!! Ina is a ārealā teacher! And someone who can walk the walk, not just talk the talk! Full explanations for each move, AND what I should feel when done correctly! (and what Iāll feel if not done right! Which may be even more important for a noob). After Inaās class I actually felt like I had learned, executed, and benefited from all the stretching.180° from my first experience.
So, obviously, I booked my last class with Ina too. This was a āRestoreā class, and very different to the COB Class. It utilizes various āpropsā, like a padded roller, and a hard ball (about the size of a tennis ball). These you use to put pressure on certain points and ācreate spaceā. Now I will say that I disliked the ball⦠a lot! It puts too much pressure on a small area (was I doing it wrong?) and I found it to be quite painfulā¦. There has to be a better way. However, using the roller under my hips and behind my head really did ādecompressā and open up space in my neck and spine. This, combined with various stretches from the sitting and prone position really made for an effective session (pro tip: long hot shower afterwards with the hot water on the neck and shoulders is advised, felt great to me!)
Iād say Pilates is SUPER dependent upon which instructor you get! And if you are going to the Highland Village CP, then search out Ina, and you wonāt go wrong! She will carry you through the learning process with kindness and patience.
Iām sure there are other great instructors at the CPHV, but Iāve only experience two so far, maybe Iāll update this review after trying some others.
For me it was (overall) a good experience⦠But maybe avoid the little ball! LOL𤣠Or learn to use it properly so you donāt end up feeling sore and ābruisedā the next day! š But give Pilates a try, even if you donāt go regularly, you will learn stretches and moves that you can do at home, even without a āReformerā (known in Medieval times as āThe Rackā LOL š). But for sure donāt be discouraged after your first visit, try a different instructor or different class, and you might find it enjoyable,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCP Highland Village is my little home-away-from-home! Debi and Todd (the owners) had put together a fabulous team of instructors and an incredible staff, and the other Pilates addicts who regularly attend along with me can attest that it feels like such a special place full of warmth and friendliness every time I'm there. I am a person who NEVER worked out - at all - before going to CP, but since starting as a founding member in April of 2018, I've never looked back (or looked better). Pilates has transformed my body and has given me strength, balance, and flexibility I never knew I had. I'm in better shape now, at almost 50, than I was when I got married. I've also made wonderful friends with other CPHV "regulars." I couldn't recommend this studio more highly. Pic attached is the studio celebrating my 500th class! Lori (the AMAZING Club Manager) even got champagne to toast! :-) What's even more important is the quality of the workout you will undertake at CPHV. Not every CP is the same - as I've been to many around the country with my national membership. Most of the instructors that Todd and Debi have on staff share the approach that concentrating on great form and achieving a mind/body connection will derive the best results. They believe that challenging yourself leads to those little physical improvements we all want to see. And they do so in a positive, motivating, and supportive way. Get...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been coming to Club Pilates in Highland Village for over a year now. In that time, I gained significant flexibility, strength, and mobility. But, that is just a side-effect of Pilates when it is done as Joseph intended. And this is where I think the Club Pilates HV shines bright. The instructors here are all great. They pay attention to form and coach you so that you get a great workout without doing harm with poor form. They are very creative in coming up with new ways to work different areas of the body. This really makes a difference as it is very easy to get bored doing the same things over and over again. They all seem to be interested and passionate about what they do. The management and front desk staff is always friendly and helpful. I always look forward to going in even though I don't always look forward to doing the work, but I always leave felling great. If not for all of the above, I would not have stuck with it for year. I look forward to many more.
Edit: 5+ years later I stand by my...
