What a great shop! I was in SLC on US Navy business for a week and made time for a visit to the Alpine Scenic Loop as I always do. I was alone on this trip, but had the urge for a picnic. Serendipity led me to Meiers on the afternoon of May 27th, and I will be eternally grateful that it did. My heart was already full from the beautiful drive along the mountain stream, the scenery, and the cool freshness of the river water on my bare feet. I actually turned around to go back and buy picnic food so I could return and sit along the river and eat. My heart was filled with even more joy and happiness from the friendliness of the staff. The fried chicken and potato salad were delicious - both made so well mom would ask for the recipe - but what really set Meiers apart from other shops was the staff. I never encountered friendlier people. From the young lady in the bakery area who stopped what she was doing to get me help at the cooked foods counter, the young man who helped me there, to the checkout cashier I felt like I was among family. Their genuine, open smiles and searching eyes made me feel like they wanted to strike up a conversation and get to know me. I guess I was a bit lonely without my business traveling partner, but Meiers staff took care of that. Thank you, folks. I'll be back on my...
Read moreWe've been ordering meat (mostly prime rib) from Meiers for years. Its usually top notch. Sadly, this Christmas was different. We called 10 days in advance to reserve a roast. When we arrived on the pickup day, they said they had a hard time finding our order. One of the managers finally came out and said they'd given it to someone whose name sounded like ours. Not many names sound like "Ure". We were then offered a roast from the display case. I was hesitant because who knows how long it had been sitting there. Since that appeared to be the only option, we took it. Christmas Eve rolled around and the dinner was a flop - very little taste to the meat. I called yesterday to discuss the situation with the meat department manager and was only offered a "sorry" and "we need to do better." I expected more than that given we reserved it in advance, it was Christmas and we spent $130+ on a roast. Disappointing. Guess we will need to look...
Read moreNever been so happy about a grocery store. We came here because La Nay Ferme delivers our weekly CSA share here, and I've started coming here for groceries as well. Their store-made tortilla chips are FANTASTIC, and everything else we've bought so far that they make in store has been great (salsa, hamburger buns, etc). A really good source for locally sourced products as well (they have eggs from Provo, for example). If you go late at night, there are mostly kids in the main grocery area and they're less attentive about recognizing that you need help, but I'm not knocking off any stars for that because it makes it feel even more like these are real people that are running this place and not just corporately...
