Summary: Amazing coaching, convenient location, friendly admin (Ann is great!) and great tennis.
More: My 3 boys and I had truly Exceptional coaching at both the Deallyon Ave campus and the Shipyard campus (only 8 minutes away).
Scott (Deallyon campus) in one private lesson was able to give me two or three things to work on for my backhand, one for my topspin and two things for my slice. And yes I did ask for the complexity.
For the rest of the week I asked him to give two of my kids private lessons and they took to it well. My youngest actually wanted to focus on his backhand and asked for it. First time he showed such interest.
Becca (Deallyon campus) gave me lessons the rest of the week and I now have a ton of things to work on. Patient coach who thought up great exercises for various aspects of my game.
Scott and Becca are great coaches. Highly recommend.
My kids also did the Quickstart program at Shipyard campus. Surprisingly the level of tennis there was more intermediate than raw beginner and the coaching was great. The kids were engaged and had a good time.
I also did advanced drills at the Shipyard campus with Coach Jim who is amazing. In the short time he had rotating through everyone he gave me two or three fundamental things to work on (I didn't notice), serve and volley wise. Almost as good as doing private lessons. ALSO Jim is hilarious! Had a great time at the advanced drills.
The indoor courts served us well during our rainy week. Just putting it out there because I believe there aren't any elsewhere.
Will be back. Thanks for a great...
Read moreI attended the VDM Tennis University to learn more about coaching and earn a PTR certification. The course covered a lot of material in five days. They sent videos and documents in advance that helped me to prepare. I referred to them after each session and will use them in the future. The instructors did a great job of explaining each lesson, answering questions, guiding us through practice lessons, and providing feedback. We spent many hours on the court and hit a lot of tennis balls. It was exhausting but not overly so.
I have attended a number of VDM adult clinics over the years. The instruction was always top-notch. The pros' interpersonal skills are the icing on the cake. It quickly becomes apparent why Louie leads TU. He is extremely knowledgeable, passionate about tennis and teaching, and cares deeply about his students. Steve is the perfect complement to Louie. Several of the people in my class will be coaching at VDM this summer. They will do a great job.
I tell young adults that they can't know enough people with great character. Pat Van Der Meer is one of those people. She embodies all of what is great about the VDM organization. I am honored to say I know Pat.
If you want to learn to coach tennis or improve your coaching skills, I highly recommend Van Der Meer's...
Read moreHad the opportunity to stay in the condos right next door to the facility and even though my family was not participating in the camp or lessons for the week, just renting court time, we were treated phenomenal. The staff made sure we had everything we needed and a good court with some shaded seating area. Who knew Hilton Head Island could see the heat index into 113 degrees F. Well at Van Der Meer Tennis Center they've got you covered with an industrial size ice machine to keep you cool even in the hottest days. The courts were well maintained and plenty of them. They had both covered and open courts that were very reasonable priced for hourly rate. Playing tennis here on vacation has been a real treat for me and my family. Next year we will have to sign young Christian up for their week long camp or match play when we come back. If you play tennis don't miss out on this incredible...
