I have been a longtime customer of Kohls for well over 16 years with most of my visits at the Kirkwood highway store. It pains me to write this review as there are many positive experiences I've had with the managers and staff at this location until this week.
I used a special 40% mystery savings online and selected in-store pick up only to find three of the four ordered items had been canceled when I arrived at the store. I asked customer service about honoring the special 40% since Kohls canceled most items. Customer service suggested I find something similar and request a manager when I get to the register to ask them to honor the 40%.
The manger who arrived, later identified as Mary, abruptly stated she could only do a lesser savings amount which I agreed would be fine as I planned to contact online customer support to discuss the remaining discount for a future visit. Mary proceeded to unsolicitedly tell me that the items of my order that were canceled were due to theft which makes online show that an item is available when its no longer in the store.
Several times I passively agreed with Maryâs outrage over the topic of shoplifting and tried to redirect her back to finishing my shopping transaction but each time the exchange became more awkward as she continued to press the theft topic further about the how it impacts the stores increases in prices, insurance and other details which werenât my concern.
This level of fervor grew beyond poorly focused and into outright inappropriate. Mary was fluctuating between rudely saying she couldnât do a 40% discount, which I again wasnât asking for at that point, and back to ranting about shoplifting with an increasingly aggressive tone. As her ranting continued it became apparent that the conversation was being directed at myself. I am a person of color and vocalized that I believed that to be the reason this conversation remained on the topic and why she was being loud and rude with me.
That comment was the cue for Mary to escalate her terrible behavior by now yelling she wanted me out of the store and threatening to call 911 because as she shouted âYOU CALLED ME A RACISTâ.
Kohlâs has a serious problem with this employee because there is no possible way this outrageously unsuitable behavior can be an...
Read moreUpdated review 2025 I went into this Kohl's location yesterday to complete my Amazon returns and decided to shop around in the Men's department. What I experienced was truly disappointing.
I've been in retail leadership for over eight years, and I would never allow my store to be in the condition I witnessed, especially in the Men's department, no matter the staffing challenges. As a leader, if my team was short staffed, I would step in myself to ensure the sales floor was presentable and our guests had a positive experience.
The department was completely disorganized, with merchandise thrown everywhere and no team members available on the floor to assist, only staff at checkout. After finally finding a pair of pants to try on, I discovered gum stuck on them while in the fitting room. At that point, I put my own clothes back on and walked out.
Normally, I always return my items neatly to the sales floor after trying them on, but I left everything in the fitting room and walked out of the store. This experience left me feeling disgusted and disappointed. Unfortunately, this visit reflects exactly why Kohl's is facing the challenges it is today.
Review from 3 years ago Not much merchandise was available, especially in the men's department. But men's clearance was great! The fixtures were extremely light with merchandise and sort of stretched out to fill in whatever they could. On another note please advise all of your team members to wear a headset along with their walkie. Team members should not be shouting out to the manager for assistance! Nor should I hear their conversation with almost every team member's walkie volume blasting loud. It's unprofessional and team member conversations should be confidential in a work setting when guests are around! I would also like to speak with someone in regards to the service I received at the Amazon Drop...
Read moreManager was impatient, I folded the clothes so the cashier could scan more and easily cashier instead lifted every piece of clothing putting them in bag with no sort of care. When time to check out kohl's cash ticket did not register the total as it always had to be printed on ticket. Employee went on break called manager over and manager was irritated, seemed short and unfriendly. Manager stated there was $40 in kohl's cash to which we were told by cashier it was $60. I stated that to the manager to which she was argumentative and proceeded to tell me it's $40....you get $10 for every $50 spent....$50 into $324 is what.....I said 6. She was successful in having $40 on 1 voucher and 2 for $10 each that she had set on counter and not given to us. I was persistent and she then gave the $20 she had on counter. I am Director in health care myself and do not like to cause issues and be a problem however I do not find it good customer service, good for business or reviews that a team lead is unable to keep thier selves composed enough when dealing with customers and a situation in a respectful manner. Will not recommend this store to ANYONE. would rather drive to a place with better...
