First off I was Not happy the Birds outside were extremely hot. Water bowls were low and the water warm. Brutus is very aggressive and I would imagine just all around miserable. Those birds deserve better. Second, the prices are not reasonable. At least not for a FL resident. I get we make our money due to tourism but we Floridians deserve to explore and enjoy our peninsula just as much if not more than the tourists. They come here and expect to be wowed, to those of us who live and work here it's a slap in the face to charge 30$ for a tank top we must absolutely have to survive the extreme temperatures here. Especially when we all know these shirts are mass produced and cost the store owners less than $5 per shirt. I feel there should be a Florida Resident discount. After all who advertises better for our tourists than us natives. I didn't end up buying anything here. From the mistreated exotic birds to the extreme pricing for everyday clothing articles made dirt cheap; the vibe in this store was just all wrong. The staff was very uninterested in answering questions or helping you find anything. I will Not be recommending this store but absolutely may still call animal control. Those poor birds were panting and pulling their feathers out. Not moulting either, literally plucking out their belly feathers in frustration. However across the highway there is another little store in another plaza with reasonable pricing and lovely staff! They're next door to a lil liquor store. Walk out the door to this establishment and look straight ahead across the hwy. This establishment is definitely a tourist trap! Take it from a local don't shop here.

I was visiting the area for the first time and was shocked to see parrots left out in the intense midday heat with no visible access to water. Many of them appeared clearly distressed — feather-plucking, pacing, and other signs of psychological strain. When I asked about it, I was told it was due to “hurricane stress,” which is simply not an acceptable explanation. These birds have been kept in small cages for what seems to be years, and it’s obvious they’re not thriving. They deserve better. Relocating them to a proper sanctuary where they can receive appropriate care would be the humane and ethical choice. Using visibly suffering animals as a display or attraction for customers isn’t just questionable — it’s cruel.

Neat little beach shop. Large selection of beach tourist clothes and a few things for the kids. Famous for the parrots. They DO talk to you. Signs on the cage list their 'human' vocabulary. "Good Morning" "Turn off the X Box" "Where's my keys?"

Multiple price tags and only the highest will be honored! Buyer beware!

Purchased two hats, pricing on the underside of the beim stated 18.99. As the woman was ringing it up my total was nearly 50.00. I stated I thought the price was 18.99? She sheepishly removed the 18.99 sticker and aaid those came from the vendor with that on and they didn't remove it, rolled the price tag between her fingers and tossed it in the trash can. I asked if they don't honor the lower price and she made a face without answering. As she had the CC already processed and presented it for my signature, I again inquired about price. She promptly put my hats in a bag and that was that. As I'm leaving the store, still unhappy but not saying anything, she offers to 'credit' me. Shouldn't that have already been done? Should a customer be made to feel guilty about asking why there are two prices? Shouldn't, for the sake of good business practice, the customers questions be answered openly and honestly?

PS: I did email the store to try and resolve this, but no response. Again, this speaks to customer service.

As a former business owner myself, you realize the business madeban error for which a customer is not responsible and do the right thing!

As a new resident here, I cannot advise any of our guests to shop herethere are just too many other choices where pricing is...

If you want to spend your weekly food budget for a family of four, go purchase a few t-shirts at this shop. They attract visitors with a row of beautiful birds in cages out on the sidewalk. There is a well-written research paper on the NIH site (National Institute of Health) on keeping birds that states: "The housing provided for pet birds should meet the needs of birds of that species and allow good welfare, for example there should be no small cages but aviaries with space for each bird to exercise adequately, and social birds should be kept in social groups." These birds are never out of their cages, which is exactly what makes them dangerous and aggressive. (Signs on the cages warn patrons of this.) Exercise is not a luxury for a bird; it's a necessity. Not to mention that the loss of social interaction with other birds causes numerous behavior disorders. There are so many reasons for why this is wrong. Aren't people educated enough to know what a horrible practice this is? This is more than neglect; it's outright cruelty. Sun and Surf owners, this is shameful and you should not need even one more person to write a review like this for you to wake up. Holmes Beach, when will you step up and put an...
