I scour reviews for hotels and tours to make sure it's going to be a good experience for our travels. Prior to booking the specific tour I had questions which were answered quickly upon emailing. We arranged to meet at a spot in Waikiki (hey shoppers pick a meetup at A La Moana so you can shop after your tour). We headed down the ramp and wondered how we would find him but it was pretty easy with a license plate that said Lost on a grey Dharma van!
First, I had absolutely no idea that the tour would be conducted by an actor from the show! Greg was in several scenes filmed in HI for Lost and greeted us with a smile & promise of visiting many Lost sites. I won't list all the sites as they may be different for your tour, we wanted ours specifically focused on Lost. I am a huge Lost fan, my husband and teenager were ambivalent. Greg had tons of trivia which we were terrible at but it made it so much fun for all of us.
I loved that the tour wasn't rushed, I was able to spend as much time at the beach and the temple as I wanted to reflect on how much the show meant to me. They were both emotional moments and I really appreciate being able to absorb the reality of being there. While I loved every site that we saw (penny's boat!) those two were the highlights for me. I binged Lost on hulu last year and was grateful that for every site we stopped at Greg had pictures of the scene on his iPad to remind us of what occurred there. He gave a very detailed explanation and we had discussions where appropriate. Don't forget, he was an actor in the show so he had a lot of personal input which I loved! My teen said that was his favorite part.
Greg and this tour company are unique, there was no attempt to upsell or bring their own camera to sell us pictures afterwards. At every site Greg asked if I wanted a picture and even had some special magic shots for certain sites! I can't tell you or it would be a spoiler for your experience. Greg I still want tshirts when you create them! He even has a custom made CD of his favorite Lost music, which was a treat.
This tour with Greg was without a doubt the highlight of our trip, he was incredibly knowledgeable about Hawaii and Lost which is exactly what we were looking for. Not a Lost fan? He has lived in Hawaii all his life and the tour would have been just as meaningful without the movie references. I only wish that we planned to come back again as I would book the Jacob lighthouse hike as well. I guess at some point I'll say "we have to go back!". You could certainly make a list of what you want to see and tour Oahu on your own but you don't get to have the same experience as having a native guide you through it. Please don't hesitate to book a tour, make sure to ask for Greg for many fun surprises. Mahalo to Lost Tours Hawaii for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo much fun! A LOST fans dream! We took the circle island tour, and saw so many locations. Dave is the best tour guide Iāve ever had. He was so nice, very easy to talk to. He knows all things LOST! Every filming location, and every trick they used to make each scene. Dave uses a digital tablet to show you screenshots of exactly what was filmed where you are standing, which is very helpful. Heās also very open to taking pictures for you and your group, and even brings some props to make for better pictures! Among the MANY locations we saw, some of the highlights were: the crash beach, the dharma village, the pearl hatch, Thailand, Nigeria, Kate and Sawyerās waterfall, Jin and Sunās bridge (engagement) and temple (wedding), and the church used for the finale. He is also very knowledgeable about the island itself. While driving around the island, in between locations, we learned a lot about its history. From both a cultural point of view, as well as how the island was formed geologically. Thereās also some locations from other films/tv shows as well: Jurassic World, Pirates of the Caribbean, Hawaii 5-0, and a few others. To think it couldnāt get better, we had very light traffic throughout the day (it was a Sunday), and we ended back in Waikiki with about 30 mins left in the tour. And rather then drop us off early, Dave opted to show us a couple extra locations that are normally only on the South Shore tour (because you just canāt see all of them in one day, thereās too many). We got to see the monastery where Desmond meets Penny, The Korean river where Jin meets Sun, Pennyās boat, and a few others. We ended up back at the meeting spot 25 mins late. Dave didnāt mind and neither did we! He really went above and beyond for us, as Iām sure he would for anyone. Overall, this tour was a highlight of our trip, so much fun. I highly recommend it for any LOST fan travelling to Hawaii. We love LOST and we loved this tour. I even went back later in the week, and proposed to my girlfriend on the same bridge that Jin proposed to Sun. I canāt thank Dave enough for giving us such great memories....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAfter years of dreaming, I finally got to go on the tour and it was everything Iād hoped for and more! My boyfriend and I stayed at Disneyās Aulani resort and Dave went out of his way to pick us up rather than having us Uber to Waikiki. He also changed the order of the tour a bit to maximize the locations we got to see because of the different pickup location. Weād originally booked the South Shore tour, but because of the pickup Dave suggested we do the North instead, which ended up being perfect. He also showed us some of the South Shore locations since the routes ended up overlapping. I didnāt realize heād also tell us so much about Hawaii itselfāit was super interesting to learn about! All of the locations (both LOST and otherwise) were absolutely gorgeous and Dave told us everything about everywhere we went. He took great photos of us and we never felt rushed and got to take as many photos as we wanted and appreciate the scenery. I also loved that he has figurines for photos! That was a really nice touch. He took us by a local gift shop and let us take our time to get some souvenirs. Since weāre in the midst of COVID, I also thought Iād mention that we did all wear masks and we felt very safe on the tour. It was incredible getting such an extensive private tour of the island. I really canāt recommend this tour enough. Even if youāre not a LOST fan, you get to see how absolutely gorgeous Hawaii is. If I go to Oahu again, Iād love to do the South Shore and Lighthouse...
