TLACUACHES…the ancient Opossum Fire God to protect you……. CLASSIC ELEGANCE in a Taco Truck …… in the shadow of the Waikiki Ritz Carlton?

Having traveled the world over, our favorite food is FRESH Mexican. Most days I dream of the first bite into their UNIQUELY grilled Birria Taco…..but, each night, like a first kiss, the first bite is always BETTER than I dreamed.

Mario meticulously collects and Jessie delicately prepares an epicurean feast for the senses. And I should know…. pathogenic pain level-8 every other day, craves extreme distraction; and this explosion of flavors answers the call like none other.

As shadows fall, and dimly festive lights appear, every CREATIVE detail of Jessie’s eclectic colorful LOVE SPLASH evokes being in a remote ROMANTIC cantina.

Returning to TLACUACHES’s traditional Michoacán's ancestral birria flavors, is like the JOY of the monarch butterfly returning home to Michoacán forests every winter from North America….as there’s no feeling like returning to the SENSES of...

Tlacuaches 808 is an amazing take-out restaurant hidden away in the back of Eaton Square! We ordered carne asada salad and tacos, and both were outstanding. We didn't expect to find good Mexican food in Waikiki, and were pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, we only found it in our last night in Honolulu, but had we found it earlier, we would have eaten there every evening. The portions were large, and the prices the most reasonable that anywhere we found in Waikiki. We had as salad and tacos, both with Carne Asada, and both were amazing. The salsas were also excellent. It closes early, so get there early. It was also closed on Wednesdays. There are common tables that you can eat at, it was pouring rain so we just took it back...

Was looking for a good Mexican place and tried Tlacuaches 808 for dinner tonight. Portions are very large so consider splitting a meal if you aren’t a big eater.

We bought the Chicken Nachos and while the portion and presentation were good, the flame broiled or char taste on the chicken was too much and overpowered the meal. We about about a quarter of it and had to pitch it.

We also ordered the Birria Tacos and while the flavor was good and I loved the tortillas, the meat wasn’t very good and was extremely greasy. I should have opted for the street tacos.

Bottle water (Sam’s bottle water BTW) and a can drink were $2 each! While the portions were large and average price for HI, the drink prices were...

NEW IN Waikiki! GET THERE EARLY! We went there on Saturday night and many items were sold out (good sign. They make everything fresh here) Prices are really good considering the portions. Both chili and Mac and Cheese came with grilled cheese bread on top in a size of ramen cup bowls Chili was well seasoned with added fresh tomato. Perfect with chips too. Birria taco was so perfectly cooked, with side of fresh salad (rare in Waikiki). Not oily at all. Next time I would try them at their outdoor seating area to see how they taste crispy! Highly recommended. #familyfriendly and #covidsafe. #supportlocalbusiness #locallyowned #tacoTuesday (Sorry for these bad photos!)

I had time to come back here and eat twice before leaving a review. Question of priorities. The food was that good. First time around stuck with the typical taco order. After the order noticed that they had two special dishes and decided to come back and try the other two dishes. You get some of the largest plates that you will find in a good truck. I always leave stuffed. The food is fresh and tasteful and I love the salsa's. I'm no mexican expert but this is just great street food. The guys in the truck are super friendly as well. Definitely worth heading over too. You can thank me later.
