I was visiting honolulu using a rental car. There was a fender bender on my way to the airport to leave HI. I called because I was told that autobody companies do not provide free estimates for work. This is not the norm in the contiguous US. I wanted to make sure I wasn't "being taken for a ride." The employee on the phone was so kind. They explained that most shops charge a fee for estimates on the island because there aren't as many shops and the estimates take away time from working on vehicles. He also explained what the different options are as far as going through insurance or not and how things varried on Oahu vs in the contiguous US. The information they gave was incredibly valuable.
