This is how most bad reviews start but I feel I gotta write it- I’ve been a devoted Wicked sushi customer for years. Always love going there and the service and food hit that middle line with the price. I vote for it over another sushi place in town normally. Comes time for a big bday dinner with 5 of my friends.. who all reluctantly take my suggestion to go to Wicked vs other HR sushi.. and it was one of the worst experiences at a restaurant I’ve ever had. So embarrassed and won’t go there again after. We were treated like we shouldn’t be there. The waitress was nice, but the main manager guy was annoyed at us the whole time. Wouldn’t even get us water glasses when we asked, wouldn’t give us the bigger table that was open and put two wobbly tables together in a dark corner. I made a reservation too so it wasn’t a 6 person surprise, and they weren’t busy. We weren’t drunk or loud. He stared at us while we’re eating, the table was crowded with unused plates, and still not enough water glasses for everyone even tho we asked many times. The sushi wasn’t its usual. I almost wanted to ask if something bad happened cuz the entire staff was off. But for a manager, no excuse. It was a bad experience and all these people invited haven’t stopped talking about it. We would have been better going to a...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped by for lunch. The staff were polite and helpful, wore masks, and made sure to remind us that the bathroom was shared with the adjoining Mexican restaurant next door. With current Covid restrictions I appreciated the info. Tables were an appropriate distance apart, although it was not packed when we arrived. Timing of service was just right, didnt feel either rushed nor neglected. We have been here a few times before and have always enjoyed what we got, and today was no exception. My wife got their "chicken katsu" sandwich and it was amazing. The chicken was fried up just right, crispy, thick, and juicy. The sauce, part bbq and part teriyaki, really set the whole thing off. I got the "hank burger" and was pleasantly surprised that I could specify how it was cooked. I like them medium well but am used to most burger joints just automatically doing it well done. It was amazing. Very juicy and my plate was soon swimming with the juices and sauce that dribbled from the burger. The fries were kind of a thin cut wavy steak fry that were perfectly cooked and tasted amazing dipped in all the liquid awesomeness that dribbled out of my burger and onto my plate.
Long story short, we will be back for sure and heartily recommend this place to any...
Read moreWow, what a name! I was wanting to try a burger but didn't want to leave my personal belongings behind to wash my hands (gotta get that pic for Yelp you know) so I went the Japanese route.
ATMOSPHERE: Simple decor with bar, high & low top seating, TV's and good street views through the big windows.
MENU: Japanese-style bowls, salads, sushi, burgers, sandwiches.
BEVERAGE: English Style Pale Ale - $5.75 This local brew had a medium brown-reddish color, was smooth with low bitterness.
FOOD: House Specialty Mafa Chicken $12.75 Falling under their Teriyaki Bowls category, the chicken strips were perfectly marinated in a sweet-savory sauce, breaded and deep fried with a light and crispy batter. The steamed rice was also perfectly fluffy and moist but the portion size was too much compared to the small amount of chicken received. Steamed veggies also topped the bowl (broccoli, cabbage, yellow zucchini). Very good!
SERVICE: I was immediately greeted by Brayan and told to sit anywhere. He brought over a menu, gave me time to peruse and checked on me. Another male worker asked if I wanted more beer. So attentive!
OVERALL: Legit Asian food. If for some odd reason I'm in Hood River again, they're a...
