Complete chaos, sub standard customer service and mediocre coffee. I am not sure if they just reopened due to COVID, but should consider establishing better procedures. We arrived and ordered our food/coffee and grabbed a seat. Cool atmosphere, music and lots of windows. Then, they called out our drinks. Luckily I confirm my drinks due to a dairy intolerance. The first one called was made with whole milk, so I confirmed the second drink....barista informs me the order for 2 different lattes with alternative milks came through on her end as regular lattes. How does that happen? So, she remakes them. We taste them and end up throwing them away 15 mins later (weak and no foam). At that point we are still waiting around for food... So we are about 25 mins in at this point. The place is packed and we see workers wondering around calling out names for orders. At one point we thought we heard someone call our name, but when we went to the counter we could not get anyone's attention and saw no food. It was also not clear where we should pick up food ordered for there. Another 10 mins passes and I finally get someone's attention in the back. He goes to the register and a female cashier comes back with our food. I asked how long it had been sitting there and her reply was "I called your name 4 times" Really? At this point there are way too many people in the place and we were over it, so we ate our cold bacon and eggs (with our hands btw, since there was no silverware or plastic wear to be found) and went to another coffee shop 2 blocks away to get proper lattes. Won't be returning. Too much competition in the area to put...
Read moreNot impressed. First and only time here so I've only had one thing from the menu. Took longer than I expected to get our food but I'm pretty forgiving about that. Maybe 20+ minutes. The pastrami sandwich was underwhelming in every way. While the meat itself was tasty there was not much of it. The bread was not toasted and was actually soggy on the bottom which I did not expect. Could have had more sauce/mayo. As a lover of sandwiches, one thing I always dislike is when the middle of the sandwich is super fat and the outsides have no filling resulting in a ball shape that is just unpleasant to eat and I always have to open it up and redistribute the ingredients. It takes minimal effort to assemble a sandwich. The slaw was not great and super watery. The tomato was also lackluster. Even the pickle was rubbery and too sweet. Almost $14 for a mediocre sandwich and pickle. Service was a bit snarky and I could tell they didn't like that I tipped only 10% which I usually think is fine for a place with no table service. Look, they don't need my business, there are lots of yuppies who are clearly willing to pay a premium to sit on their computers and enjoy uninspired fare. I won't be back but maybe I should have tried...
Read moreOf the many excellent breakfast and coffee options in Hood River, this is one of our favorite casual breakfast spots in Hood River. A convenient walk from the waterfront. Big garage door style windows open up on sunny mornings. Order at counter. Find a table. Pour your own black coffee. Buss your table when you're finished. Can get a bit busy, so be prepared to wait a bit of it's a busy morning, but the food is worth it! Scrumptious big, fat homemade English muffins make for great breakfast sandwiches. The waffles are amazing, as is the yogurt and homemade granola. The iced coffee is some of the better cold brew I've tasted. Best part; starting your morning here will cost far less some of the other quality breakfast spots in town. Open for lunch as well, but we're usually on the water by then, so cannot speak to lunch (have seen lunch dishes, and they look great). Plenty of local artists work featured on the walls (for purchase if interested) give this cafe a vibrant, interesting and colorful flair. Easy walk down to the waterfront from here, and very close to train depot if you're taking a scenic train ride up to Moun Hood. Definitely worth a stop. Might just become one of your...
