MD Anderson Proton Therapy Center — Local services in Houston

I want to share my disappoinment with the Team at the Proton Therapy Center. Schedule of treament was set, we traveled across the US to start treament for a late stage aggressive cancer. Twice the treament start has been cancelled. One of the cancellations was with a 2 hour notice. Extremely upset with the lack of notice and continued delays. The patient is ready, the Team and Center cant seem to get their act together.

Update Once treatment started exceptional care and compassion was provided by the Proton Therapy Team. Their expertise, attention to detail, and kindness have made an incredible difference during this challenging time.

Dr. Franks, Nigel (you are the absolute best!) and Team - your dedication and commitment to my husband is truly remarkable, and we are so thankful for the personalized care we received. Every member of the MD Anderson Cancer Team not only treated the illness but cared for us as individuals, which has meant more than words can express.

Excellent. Dr. Frank and Ian, his PA are compassionate, listened to me, took time to answer my questions and educate me about a rare head and neck cancer treatment with Pencil Beam Proton Therapy. Dr. Frank is one of a handful of Radiation Oncologist with extensive experience with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma in the Head and Neck. He championed Proton therapy in the US and has a pioneering spirit and is motivated by his desire to cure his patients with the most effective radiation treatment options available. Ian is caring and goes above and beyond to work with patients who are undergoing radiation treatment, which in reality is a test of strength. For Head and Neck radiation understand your face /head will be held in place by a mesh mask that’s secured to the treatment table. It was best for me to research the mask beyond the quick view of the mask at my early appointments so I could accept this part of the process easier. Great staff but these people will call you 8 - 10 times in one day to confirm next day appointments, even if you’ve already confirmed them. If you are literally 1 min late they will blow up your phone every 3 mins…. As you’re walking in to check in they will be consistently calling you. We appreciate everything yall do but we have a lot going on in our lives besides radiation 5x a week. We rearrange everything to make it here. Stuff happens… it’s life; especially with cancer. We are not always able to be prompt with our time. Please remember this.
