My precious 13 year old granddaughter was taken here (against my wishes) last Tuesday afternoon by ambulance from Memorial Herman Hospital in Pearland where her Dad had taken her on Monday night when she had came into his room with an empty bottle of Midol and told him “Dad I think we need to go to the hospital” and she had been having signs of anxiety, depression and hurting herself! So he rushed her to the Emergency Room and then contacted her mother (they are divorced and my daughter lives up in Spring with us and her other 4 year old daughter) at around 2:45 AM where she was seen by doctors and had bloodwork done. After her mother got to the hospital in Pearland she contacted my granddaughter’s therapist who is in Cypress, Texas and my granddaughter had only recently had one virtual visit with her and she had recommended that she get more help (intensive therapy sessions) or a good psychiatric hospital. So after the hospital did their initial assessment and they had my granddaughter talk with a psychiatrist and a therapist she told them that she was afraid if she went Home she would possibly hurt herself again and she was very depressed. So the doctor told my daughter and former son in law that she needed to be taken to a psychiatric hospital and they would have to find one that had an opening to except our granddaughter. So after many hours they found Sun Behavioral and I had read up on the reviews and I have bipolar disorder myself and have been in 2 different hospitals in Houston and I told them I wouldn’t take her there because of the terrible reviews! Well they did not listen to me or my sister or her brother so about 2 hours after my daughter got home from admitting my 13 year old granddaughter (her first born daughter) she received a phone call from the psychiatrist nurse and she was calling to get parental consent to give my granddaughter 5mg of Lexapro! A psych medication used for depression and anxiety disorder! When my daughter and her former husband had specifically told them to put on my granddaughter’s chart “no medication!” They had wanted her to use talk therapy and group counseling sessions and medication as a last resort!!!!! She had only been there 2 hours and they wanted to medicate her and she is only 13 years old and we still don’t know what her diagnosis is or if she has even seen a doctor yet!!!! My daughter told her ABSOLUTELY NOT AND DO NOT GIVE HER ANYTHING UNTIL A PSYCHIATRIST CALLS ME AND HER DAD!!!! Wednesday on my daughter’s lunchtime break she has a voice message from the hospital and it’s the nurse wanting consent to give her daughter medication 5 mg of Lexapro again!!!! My daughter has a fit and calls her former husband and he has not gotten a call at all and he works from home and has been by the phone all morning! She called the nurse and tells her again until they hear from the doctor DO NOT GIVE HER DAUGHTER MEDICATION!!!!! So she gets home from work and calls up to the hospital to see how her daughter is doing and they said she was fine and asked if she wanted to speak with her? Her daughter got on the phone and said she was ok and she had spoken with a psychiatrist for about 10 minutes today and then she had slept all day! Her mama said “in your room!” She said “no they won’t let you sleep in your room so I slept on the couch in the morning room my daughter asked why she didn’t have to go to group therapy and she said because she was sleepy! And she asked was she doing okay and she said yeah I’m just cold because I need some warmer clothes and the blanket is really thin and they won’t let me have another blanket so could she please bring her some warm clothes and a jacket tomorrow. So my daughter gets another voicemail on Thursday asking for medication consent! So my daughter and my son in law are now going to be taking my granddaughter out and it’s Wednesday a week has passed and they haven’t gained anything from this place, my granddaughter has told them they have girls from 13-17 she is the youngest and some of them have been arrested one for stabbing a...

Absolutely TERRIBLE. When I went here I was 12 years old, and it was just a dreadful experience. As soon as I got there it was night time and I was just thrown in there without any clue how things were going to be done or what was going to be done. Soon after I got there we were given our meds, and I saw the amount of my medication that was given to me was weird. I immediately talked to the nurse and said the dosage was wrong and she said “no it’s not.” I told her again that it wasn’t right and she checked again, to her surprise I was right and she was about to give me the wrong dosage. I was then given my room and my roommate. She was an 8 year old who had a huge crush on me and tried to make advances on me. I was obviously weirded out and disgusted and talked to the staff who was supposed to be a safe space for me. They ignored me and said it was fine, so I had an 8 year old girl trying to feel up on me which was DISGUSTING. Next day I made a friend and she complained about her roommate telling her to die and so I told her to talk to the staff. I went up to the staff with her to help her out since she was nervous and she talked to them about it. The staff got mad at me for being there when she talked about it, saying it was none of my business and they ignored her situation even though she was being bullied. After breakfast, lunch and dinner kids would bring up the plastic utensils to self harm and the staff did not care. They also used pencils to do so and the staff did NOT care at ALL. Shower times were miserable and we barely got any time to clean ourselves and I was left there to stink. The amount of shampoo given was ridiculous and so was the amount of soap given, how was I supposed to clean myself with THAT? Another time during the night a little boy kept getting up out of bed and coming into our rooms to watch us sleep (not a worker) and the staff didn’t care. It was honestly so scary to have some random kid watch me sleep. The staff has no care in the world about patients. And when a little girl wet the bed they SCOFFED at her for it and got upset when it was not her fault at all, she is just a YOUNG girl. They got mad when we didn’t know how to make our beds how they wanted even though they never said how to? I had to get another girl to help me but then when that girl came in my room THATS when they get mad for someone going in our room (not the boy???). I lied to get out of there so I only had to be there 3 days. I genuinely thought the facility would assist me in getting better but it only made it worse. Due to everything that happened there I am now a 14 year old girl scared of asking for help or voicing my feelings because I don’t want to get sent back there or any other mental facility. Please do not send your kids there or go here yourself. The staff doesn’t care for you at all.

TLDR: staff doesn’t care about you, they get your medicine dosages wrong and they will allow you to self harm.

Once again, please don’t go here. It is honestly the worst place ever to go. Please just find a different place in a different state as all the mental facilities in Texas are not good (from personal experience and my friends experiences.) Thank you so much for reading...
