Shaw's was able to resize my engagement ring 2 sizes down, even though it has side diamonds! Albert Ruiz was incredibly helpful and professional, with many years of experience. I had previously been told by 2 other jewelers in Houston that they couldn't resize my ring down to my size because it would change the form of the ring so much that the side diamonds would eventually fall out. Since my ring is from another country, I figured I would have to return the ring to the other country to exchange it for one in my size, and it's stessful sending jewelry.

I came into Shaw's for a resize evaluation to know for sure what size to give for returning the ring to the other country for the exchange. The other 2 jewelers in Houston I visited before Shaw's rushed through a resizing evaluation since they knew they wouldn't be making much money from me since I thought I had to send the ring back to the other country. They took sizing rings on and off (not telling me the sizes), and at the end told me my size was X even though the last ring they put on was tight for my liking. Unlike them, Albert Ruiz at Shaw's Jewelry took the time to tell me each size of sizing ring before putting it on my finger when we got close to my size, so I could feel how the size felt to know for sure if the size we said was good for me. Albert explained his recommendation for a good size, which was extremely helpful since my finger size fluctuates during the month. He then told me that Shaw's could resize the ring and kindly listened to my concerns. He took the time to answer all my questions and explained how the process would likely not have the side diamonds fall out eventually. He even offered a one-year guarantee on the resizing, which helped me trust in their quality of work even for this tough job. This is sad to write because my relationship with Shaw's goes back over 50 years when as a boy I would buy coins from Mr. Shaw in his store, previously located on the north side of West Gray. Unfortunately, I can no longer trust Shaw's jewelry to provide honest sales and service.

Three years ago I purchased my wife's engagement ring here, choosing a higher end but modestly sized diamond. It was never out of her possession except the times we had been in Shaw's to purchase other jewelry and they offered to clean it up for us. She recently damaged her ring, and we took it in for repair. Prior to leaving it for repair, the young lady salesperson inspected and weighed the diamond and told us that it was not the diamond we had purchased. The diamond we had was a slightly larger diamond but of inferior quality.

I was very surprised by this, obviously, because they only time the ring had not been in our possession since the time of purchase was when it had been in their jewelry service room. It seems the diamond we ended up with is not worth what we paid for, and the documentation they provided to me when I purchased the diamond does not match what we were given. I asked them to please correct all this, but they have completely washed their hands of the matter. They believe that the diamond was switched out after it left the store the first time, so now it is their word against ours.

All I can say is be very careful if you do business with them. For me, they can no longer be trusted. Such a disappointment that after over 50 years of doing business with Shaw's, they have lost a long-time...

Albert is the best discovery we have made in years. I always thought a custom piece of jewelry might be out of reach or just too much trouble. I didn’t have any design ideas of my own other than I wanted this ring to look more feminine and maybe a bit Art Deco when I went into Shaw’s. It was just a stroke of excellent luck that I met Albert. He listened to me carefully and started sketching ideas as I looked at other settings to see style elements I liked. I had no jewelry vocabulary, but he knows his stuff and explained to me what he thought might suit the stone, my other rings, and what I liked in general. He drew up the loveliest special setting to be made for my ruby and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the result. Please note that I was willing to spend more to make it as beautiful as it could be, but Albert said it really wasn’t necessary. He said he’d put the stone in the most appropriate setting with all the details I wanted without having to break the bank. Albert spent a good 45 minutes sketching and visiting with me to make sure I was going to get just what I liked, even if I could not visualize it well myself.
