Location: this is a location not too far from downtown. It's got great parking, and even valet. Easy to find, good lighting. I went there a few days after the hurricane. I was pleasantly surprised compared to other places I stopped at. Ambiance: I love when I walked in I realized I was in a different kind of spot. If you like party and crazy, this is your place. The room is rocking with raucous music, people were singing and dancing, drinking, and the Hooka pipes everywhere. Smoking is not my thing, but it was fun to watch the crowd. By the way, I might mentione that I'm from out of town. It was late past 9:00 p.m., and I was looking for some Southern cooking. Post hurricane. Many places were still closed. When I arrived and went inside I realized it was pretty much a black establishment. I'm a white boy, and consider turning around. But I said no. I'm hungry and these people are gonn'a to be cool. Thank you All for having me in. Even though I was a little fish out'a water, you all made me comfortable. Hats off to my lovely Ethiopian waitress who is kind. That Justin's kind of duty they have. 🙂 Menu: The menu was a little smaller than I expected, and also a little more expensive than I expected. A variety of unique foods, including Southern style steak, and a few other fun things. I opted for the lobster sliders, and the jam grilled brussel sprouts. Food: DAMN. Yes, damn that was good. Like seriously this was good food. I'm glad I was patient and waited. It took a little while to get a seat. And it took me even longer to get a waitress. I had to flag her down. Once I got her attention, and all turned out great. The question for me is always. Will I go back again? I think the answer is yes but I'd want to go with a group. That would make it much more fun. The other thing is there are a ton of Southern cooking restaurants in the area. And I'd likely choose one of them first before going back here. I have to be in the mood for the whole presentation. But yes, the food was real good.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – A Whole Southern Vibe with Soul to Match 🎷🍗✨ I finally made it to Rockhouse Southern Kitchen, and let me tell you—it was everything I didn’t know I needed in one night: great food, live music, grown-up energy, and a serious dose of Southern soul. As soon as I walked in, I felt like I was stepping into an upscale juke joint. The lighting was warm, the décor had this vintage-cool energy, and the music? Already bumping before I even sat down. They had live jazz and R&B flowing from the stage, and it immediately set the tone—grown, sexy, and smooth. Let’s get to the food, because whew. I ordered the oxtails and grits, and it was fall-off-the-bone perfection. Rich, tender, full of flavor like someone’s grandma spent all day in the kitchen with a secret recipe. My friend had the chicken and waffles, and I ended up stealing more than a few bites—crispy, juicy, sweet, salty… just yes. And don’t sleep on the mac & cheese or greens. Everything tasted like it had a story behind it. The drinks? On theme and strong in the best way. I had the “Lady Sings the Blues”—smooth, fruity, and dangerously easy to sip. We also ordered one of their signature cocktails in a carafe, perfect for sharing and sipping while the band played. The crowd was a whole vibe—grown, fly, and having a good time. No mess, no stress—just people vibing to live music, clapping on beat (thank God), and actually talking to each other. You could come on a date or with a crew and feel completely at home. A few tips if you go: • Make a reservation. It fills up fast, especially on live music nights. • There’s a valet and a self-park option, but both cost—so bring cash or prepare to add it to your night-out budget. • A 20% gratuity is already added to the check (which was fine by me because our server was amazing). Overall, Rockhouse isn’t just dinner—it’s an experience. I left full, smiling, and already planning my next visit. Perfect for when you want a little Southern comfort with a side of live soul.

I patronized this establishment on Sunday,7/02/23, and overall,my experience was good despite the rocky start. Upon entry, the gentleman at the door was very nice. He greeted me and held the door open. Once inside, the Hostess with the small fro greeted me with a warm smile and good energy. After greeting a few people that I know,I approached the bar to get a beverage as there wasn’t a line. There was only one person ahead of me. 10 minutes later, neither bartender greeted me or said anything. The light skinned bartender with the glasses was taking people their phone, then going back down to the end of the bar, chatting with people it appeared that she knew. No problem in that, but again,no acknowledgment of me standing there. By then,I ask the hostess for the Manager, and I was introduced to Ruthie. She was very kind and stated she would handle it. After going back out to my friends that knew I still hadn’t been serviced,I was Introduced to Ayla, who was a breath of fresh air. She took my order, and within minutes I had a beverage. She was just as efficient when I ordered food. Once another friend arrived,we were seated at a table and advised our server was coming.20 minutes later,no server. A hostess came and apologized and stated our server was just getting to work. I saw several other servers,so I felt bad they would rush someone just getting there when we were seated prior. A Black Gentleman that was a Manager came over and apologized for that. Lyric, our waitress was very kind, bubbly, and also had good energy. I had the soul rolls, which are very tasty, yet overpriced for the quantity. The Blue Hurricane was great as well. Good DJ,and a live R&B Band starting at 6pm. All in all, I will try it again one day,and ask for the waitresses that took care of me.

The only reason that I’m giving the service five stars is because our server, Amore, was absolutely amazing. The cover charge person, and the hostess were absolutely deplorable. We had a reservation for dinner and had to pay a cover charge to talk to the hostess! Then the hostess walked us to our table and walked at least 20 feet ahead of us and didn’t say one word. Just threw us at a table in the middle of a walkway and dancing area. This place is NOT a restaurant. It’s a club and they should advertise as such. The most expensive thing on the menu were the oxtails and they didn’t have any! They also didn’t have the soul rolls which included oxtails as well. I specifically asked since they didn’t have the soul rolls would they have the oxtails available and I was assured that they would. Did I mention that we got our appetizers and finished them before our drinks even hit the table? Then when we finally got to order our food, the oxtails were not available. Why would you not have your most expensive item in stock? So I just ended up getting the wings. The wings were good. The Boudin egg rolls were good as well. They were hot and tasty. I think that they should stick to wings, french fries and egg rolls…. You know, considering that is more of a bar club than a restaurant. The first drink was in a huge glass, and the second one was in a smaller version of that glass, yet they were the same price. Did I mention the automatic 20% gratuity added to every check? If you are looking to go to dinner, this is not the place for you. However, if you want to have food while at a nightclub, then this is the perfect place. The zydeco band was really nice. We thought that we were coming to have dinner and listen to live music. However, before and after the zydeco band there’s a lot of rap music and club energy. I would also be remiss if I didn’t speak on the parking situation. They advertise that there is free parking however when we arrived, we were met with valet parking. When we asked where the free or self parking was, we were told that there was none. We did end up finding a parking spot that wasn’t run by valet. It was my birthday and I was really looking forward to patronizing this business because me and my fiancé love to support Black business. However, it will take a lot for me to ever return because this first experience was...

So I went to this place a couple days ago. Was reading reviews on it so I expected it to be on point. Got there and it was mostly empty, was tired anyway so I wasn't too bothered with that. However the waitress wasn't attentive and seemed to be more interested in conversing with her friends or family (I'm not sure) at the table behind mine, either just straight leaving or straight skipping my table multiple times just to go over there to talk to them 🤷🏾‍♂️ was told that the egg rolls were supposed to be a hit, but when I got them it barely had any oxtail just filled with crunchy greens 🤦🏾‍♂️ the rest of the things ordered didn't get finished wound up boxing it up and taking it, just to have it sit in the fridge and be thrown out a couple days later. Had a couple drinks and they weren't bad. When I got the bill I saw that they had already added a 20% gratuity to my bill. My assumption is because the service is lacking so they have to make sure that the servers get good tips somehow, instead of on the actual workers attentiveness, which explained why our service was like it was. I usually tip well everywhere I go including take out, so tipping or the included gratuity didn't bother me. I just wish I would've seen it before. I noticed it when I was leaving so that's on me. HOWEVER 1) it wasn't a group it was just a couple of us and 2) THEY STILL ADDED EXTRA onto my bill. I assume they believe it is because I left the receipt that I didn't track/have proof of what my bill was. But they added an extra $5 to my bill. The amount isn't my concern however it's disrespectful to add even more to a bill for not only bad service but also when you have gratuities already included on every bill.

I would advise you never to go to this place, find another place to go to instead because if they are doing it to me on my bill which wound up being over $150 including tip (4 drinks 2 apps, 1 meal, price didn't bother me, just the extra 5 dollars on top of that annoyed me) then they have done it to countless others.

I even wrote on my bill that the gratuity was already added and wrote the original total on the line.

I wish I could give 0 stars. I dont think I've ever written a review this long, but I want it...

Disappointing Food & Customer Service at Rockhouse Southern Kitchen I recently visited Rockhouse Southern Kitchen with a friend to enjoy The City band, expecting a great night of live music and good food. Unfortunately, the food experience was horrific and left us deeply disappointed.

Food Experience (2 Thumbs Down) The menu on their website did not match the one given in the restaurant. There was no clear indication of an "after-hours" menu or timeframe. Stuffed Turkey Leg with Dirty Rice & Alfredo Sauce with Spinach– Sloppy, greasy, and completely unappetizing. Catfish & Fries – Bland and uninspiring. Truffle Fries – Lacked any real truffle flavor. Oxtail & Greens Egg Rolls – These were okay but arrived lukewarm. Overall, the food presentation was subpar, and the quality did not match the expectations set by their online menu.

Customer Service & Management Failures We encountered a reservation mishap and were relocated to the patio, which was fine since our server, Neshia, was fantastic—attentive, kind, and apologetic about the food issues. Shes phenomenal!!! However, when we requested to speak with the manager on duty, they refused to come to our table and instead sent a message to leave a review on Google. This lack of accountability was unprofessional. Only the turkey was comped from our ticket, which felt like a minimal effort to address the poor food experience.

Live Music & Atmosphere The City band was fantastic, and we truly enjoyed their performance. However, during soundcheck, the speakers were excessively loud, causing discomfort for guests. A lower volume during this time would be much better.

Final Verdict I had previously visited Rockhouse for a friend’s birthday and had a much better experience with the original menu. However, after this visit, I would not return due to the horrible food and lack of managerial accountability. The only redeeming qualities were the great server and the live band. Unfortunately, we will have to find another venue to enjoy The City band in the future.

I highly encourage Rockhouse Southern Kitchen to revert to the original menu listed online and train management on proper guest relations.

⭐ Rating: 1/5 – Would...
