Edited 9/10/2025 from a 3 star to a 4 star pending results of the finished ring.
Shane co reached out over email a few days ago or yesterday, and we talked on the phone today. It seems there was a little miscommunication or a misunderstanding that I was anxious or I suppose most people would not be willing to wait months for their ring back so that’s why I felt a little rushed in making my decision-they likely assumed I wanted it back faster. Which I would if possible but mostly I just want a good match found and am 100% okay if that takes some time, even several months.
I feel a LOT better having that cleared up and my confidence is restored that they will find a great match and do a fantastic job. I will be updating once the repair is complete with pictures.
Original post;
My ruby was chipped a few months ago on my engagement ring. Per the warranty it is being replaced.
However.
I’m beginning to feel jerked around and I’m getting angry.
I know the quality of my ruby. It’s nearly a pigeon blood ruby, I attached a picture. I know how to tell the quality of a ruby. The ruby I loved that was recently chipped is actually a replacement since Shane Co chipped the original one my husband selected and left melted gold on my ring when giving it back after work years ago.
I was pretty upset but they did go above and beyond to make it right. The ruby we ended up with was even better quality.
Now today? I’m disappointed. I was called to come “check out a ruby”. While it was being walked out of the back I was already upset. It was dusty pink and I could see inflections in it from ACROSS the room. I attached an image of one similar but honestly I can’t find one as grainy and hazy pink as the one I was shown. Did anyone even set eyeballs on my original ruby? Because there is no way that “replacement” was considered “acceptable” if anyone had actually looked at the stone and not stats.
My current ruby is nearly a textbook perfect ruby in color, saturation, clarity and the only one inflection that’s visible if you squint and know where to look. It’s an A-/B+ ruby if you’re giving letter grades. I suspect I maybe shouldn’t have been offered because it was so much nicer quality than the original my husband selected but it’s done now.
The one they brought out was honestly just offensive. For the reasons stated above- I don’t think anyone looked. So I have no confidence that a match is being tried for after that experience.
Now I’m being told that they can’t find a close enough match, (after being very specific because I felt like either I was not being taken seriously or the people doing the selecting didn’t even care to look at my actual ring), I’m now being told a match isn’t being found. It’s only been like 6-8 weeks guys.
So it was suggested to go from a .64 to around a .55 stone to cut out the chip and keep the ruby. But that’s likely going to dramatically change how the stone sits in the ring and thicken the metal around bezel set ruby which is going to just look awful. Maybe change the color too unsure- but this isn’t acceptable. (Tbf I haven’t responded to the store yet on this suggestion but I will).
I don’t feel like my ring is being taken seriously because it’s “just a warranty”. Yes I have a very good ruby in my ring but it’s less than a full carat. It can’t be that hard to find a good match. After all the great work through this company this feels really bad.
Here’s hoping Shane co makes this right like they did when they damaged my OG ring and gave it back 9 years ago.
It doesn’t have to get done fast but it needs to be done right. And I need to be taken seriously even if we have already paid the ring off. And as of right now I don’t believe people are even trying based on the experience I’ve had so far. Quite...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I went to Shane Co to pick out my engagement ring. We had dedicated this weekend to at least narrowing down what I liked so he could pick one shortly with his bonus check. First we went to Kay's and the ladies were nice but they were also pushing a sale. By the end of the appointment they found us a ring outside of the budget we told them drastically but it was one I couldn't get out of my head. Next day we visited Jared's. By far the worst experience. They were extremely pushy and didn't listen to what I liked or wanted. Within the first ten minutes I only saw one ring that caught my eye, I tried it on and hated it. After that it was nothing but a long drawn out sales pitch about applying for credit and them saying they have a huge selection, which they did not. As i was attempting to leave they kept pushing credit and a profile and a down payment when i hadn't even found a ring. Last, was Shane Co. We walked in with only 15 to 20 minutes before closing. The first available sales person was a man named Ryan. No sales pitch, he asks what we are looking for , let's us know they are about to close but to take our time and that he'd be right back to assist. He points us to the engagement rings before walking to the back. We browse and immediately find multiple vintage options that I was looking for. He comes back and lets us try them on and listens to what I want and am looking for. I told him what i hate and he goes to work. Within 15 minutes we find one that had amazing detail and a band set that looked almost like the other ring. This one was however was in budget without any sale or deals. Ecstatic was not the word. We see the time is closing and we try to hurry up and get ready to leave out of respect to the employees, as no one really likes having to stay past their shift, but he assured us it was okay. We politely declined and told him we would be back again in the morning and to give us his card. Next day we focus on me and try different options in about a 90 minute to two hour period. We came back to the ring from the night before and I decide it had been the one. There were a few things I wanted and he was able to make those changes after speaking with the jeweler. He even threw in a necklace my soon to be fiance was eyeing for free. We told him we were sold on getting our ring from the company the night before due to excellent customer service and ability to listen as well as give me options on every detail without pushing. We will definitely be back for future purchases as they gained a pair of...
Read moreThis place is terrible. Never buy anything from here. I bought an engagement ring and wedding band set from them online. I purchased the center stone elsewhere. I took my ring in to have the center stone mounted. Not having purchased the center stone from Shane Co I fully expected to be charged a fee for having the center diamond mounting. I have had center stones mounted in the past at various other jewelers. I have even watched it being done a time or two. The process of mounting a center stone, diamond or otherwise is not rocket science. If the jeweler is experienced it can be done in less than 30 minutes. Having purchased the engagement ring from them I was fully expecting the price to mount the diamond to be reasonable. After taking down all my information the employee informed me that the turn around time was seven to ten days and the price would be 900 dollars. 900 dollars to mount a diamond on a ring purchased from Shane Co is highway robbery! I promptly informed the sales rep that I would be taking my ring elsewhere to have the stone mounted. As I am leaving the parking lot the sales rep calls me to inform me that having someone else mount the diamond would void the lifetime warranty on my ring. What an absolute racket! My entire reason for purchasing a ring locally instead of online was for the warranty. I wanted a local place to take my ring for any warranty repairs to avoid paying exorbitant shipping fees to send it in to some out of state jeweler to repair when needed. Imagine if you bought a brand new Toyota and after buying it the dealership told you that you are required to have all oil changed and service done at the dealership or your factory warranty will be voided. Shane Co, you're a joke and the owner should be ashamed charging people ungodly amounts of money for something that can be done in less than 30 minutes. My only savings grace is the fact that the ring can still be returned as there is a 60 day return period. Rest assure the ring will be returned. FYI Hupp Jewelers directly across the street from Shane Co was willing to mount my diamond for 150 dollars which is more than a fair price. I will be using Hupp Jewelers for all my future jewelry needs. My advice is don't waste your time or your money buying anything from Shane Co. They are no better than common criminals charging what they charge for their services. Lesson learned, I will never buy anything from Shane Co ever again and I will make sure that no one I know...
