I was pleasantly surprised when I had dinner here last night. A couple of things made me a bit wary.
First was that it was touted as a Vietnamese street food restaurant but when looking at the menu, more like an Asian fusion.
Second was when I was looking at all the reviews for this restaurant. No offense but I couldn't find many Vietnamese reviewers and there's a difference between a native making a review vs someone who isn't as familiar of my nationalities food.
Third, when I walked into the restaurant, I was greeted by two young guys that were not Asian. Again, no offense but when I had to put my order in, I had to say the English translation of what I wanted to order instead of typically calling it by it's Vietnamese name. My wife actually didn't realize but she did it a couple of times and they had a puzzled look on there face to which I had to translate.
We ordered the nuoc mam wings, pho dac biet, com tam, pork banh mi, a strawberry smoothie and a Vietnamese ice coffee. The wings were pretty good, just a little salty. Couldn't really taste the nuoc mam but overall still good. The pho dac biet was also pretty good. The flavor was almost like home but it was missing a hint of something but it hit the spot anyways. You might not even notice if you weren't looking for all the flavors but since I'm planning on moving here, wanted to find a place that could deliver on authentic Vietnamese food. Their com tam was also pretty delicious. A huge bed of rice that I couldn't finish. The pork chop had a lighter taste and color then most typical Vietnamese fried pork chops. The Cha was good but a little flimsy. Pork banh mi was also pretty good as well. All the dishes were sized a bit smaller then most authentic Vietnamese restaurants except for specifically the *huge bed of rice on my com tam. Not sure why the other reviewers said not to get the bubble tea.. maybe because they've never had bubble tea before or maybe they meant specifically the milk tea? Anyways, the fresh fruit strawberry smoothie bubble tea was delicious and the bubble soft and chewy. Not overly cooked nor was it hard and undercooked, could be just a tiny bit chewier if I was being critical. Finally the Vietnamese ice coffee was huge, 24oz. It was a bit lighter tasting than typical but it was again, good.
The service was slow though, or maybe the guy taking my order felt a little intimidated but he never came back to ask if I needing anything. Didn't bring me silverware for my rice dish. I even asked to see the menu again to order the bubble waffles, never came back to take my order after waiting probably at least 10 mins. I just got up and paid with the other guy and left.
I would come back in the future because food was overall pretty good. Service was a little disorganized but they weren't rude and were well intentioned. They just need to figure a better flow and to...
Read moreFeeling for something different I stopped as a chance! The atmosphere felt entrepreneurial, you the feeling, the owner is all in, loves and really cares. It's clean and inviting, and its street food, I get it! My waitstaff person was really cute, just overall. I'm talking about her presentation, she was bright, sincere, genuine and as we talked, she shared her love for the food. She was very nice. I looked the menu over and notice the simplicity found in a great variety. After ordering, I listened in as her and another staff member chatted while bussing tables, and they both were sweet young women working for honest reasons. You'd like them too.
When my order came, it presented really colorful with varied produce. The Spring Rolls were assembled perfectly, and chubby, and as I dipped the peanut sauce, my fingers got messy. But I didn't care. It was DELICIOUS, crunchy and the flavors were clean and fresh! My Vietnamese style sandwich had the same care of presentation, clearly made with pride. It was wonderful too. The combination of meat and veggies with the bun choice was truly excellent. You just didn't want to swallow, chewing this blend of color and marinated meat... but the next bite was just begging you, "come and get it!"
Everything about this really gave me what I was looking for. Even when the check came, the value for the flavors, care, every yummy sound I made was in line with a fair price. Really, what I found was all first-class street food at a price anyone could agree was worth every penny. I'm going back, because there's more to enjoy at these prices.
It was great fun and the food is really, very-very good! Special thanks to my waitstaff for how you represented yourself and the business you enjoy sharing....
Read moreI have been coming to this restaurant for a couple of months now and the moment I tasted the food I knew this was a 5 star restaurant. Their most popular dish is the Phō (pronounced as ff-ah). I was not familiar with Vietnamese food and when I found out that Head Chef and Co-owner, Carlos, spends 30 hours on just the stock of the meal I was blown away. If you do come here (which I would highly recommend) I would speak to him. Right off the bat you can tell that he is highly passionate about cooking out of this world food. He is always thinking of new recipes and ways to better his already perfect food. The serving staff is amazing as well. Maddi, Chelsea, Dixie, Yvonne, Anna, and Lyn are top notch and you can't do any better than them. Not only are they A+ at doing their job they are friendly and personable. If I wrote just how awesome the serving staff was I would have a 3 page essay. The restaurant is also very simple and aesthetically pleasing. The music is Vietnamese music and they have two silent T.V.'s usually show videos of traditional Vietnamese street food or their weekend special's. During their lunch hour customers come to the counter and order their food and during dinner hours customers will sit down and order. A really cool thing about this restaurant is they have a rewards system based through the customers phone number. After spending so much money you can receive a free fountain drink, bubble tea, sandwich and so on. I recommend this place to everyone who is interested in trying anything new until...
