Ordered a couple of bikes online for me and my wife in November. Unfortunately, one of them was in this store available for pick up. When we got to the store, the representative declined to give me the bike because I also added $30 pedals to the online order and haven't payed for them yet (I was picking up only the bike though). But ok I guess, I payed for the pedals. Only when they confirmed on their side, that the whole order was paid in full (also I verified in my bank app and in the REI online account), I got my bike. Then next day I picked up the second bike in the Seattle REI, the payment also was confirmed. After TWO MONTHS they (Issaquah REI) called us and tell that the first bike wasn't payed out, demanding we pay again. Of course, we asked them to send us a letter explaining what happened, before we agree to pay anything. Needless to say, we got no explanation, just an email with the demand to pay some weird partial amount (it didn't match any item prices in any way). We started figuring out all our holiday purchases that we did since then and trying to get any information about what happened from our bank. Meanwhile, the store representatives was calling us almost every day, demanding the payment like we stole those bikes, implying we messed up with the payment somehow. Today they even tried to threaten my wife and tried to charge our credit card without our authorization. And after all of this, today I got a confirmation from the bank manager that no operation with the store was declined for any reason, and the only way this could happen is if they ether canceled or didn't confirm the charge on their side. So it was completely their fault, and they most likely know this. I'm still going to pay the remaining amount of course, but I will definitely avoid this particular store and probably REI in general in the future. The way they allow themselves to treat their customers is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe customer service associate was incredibly rude and condescending today. This is stunning because I was always welcome in the past 25 years, and all associates used to be very kind and polite. I returned online order which I received last night. The quality of Helly Hansen jacket didn't meet my expectations, so I made a trip to the store to return it. When I approached the counter, the rude male asked me if I wanted a return instead of saying hello. Then he asked me why I wanted to return it, I told him the reasons. This senseless rep started a lecture to me about material, rainproof and insulation, etc. There were people waiting in a line, so I tried to avoid arguing with him. Then, this senseless associate asked me if I wore them. I replied that I received the package last night. But he asked me the same question again, I got upset and repeated the same answer. The jacket has a huge tag on the front zipper, and the tag was intact. Who would wear a jacket with a tag on the front zipper without removing it, hello?!?!?! Plus, REI return policy was very generous so that worn jackets were returnable withn 1 year. I have been a REI member since 1999, but never had any trouble. Why now? The moment I left this store, I decided to never...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOh, REI, it's a love hate kind of relationship. I love you because of your lifetime membership for $20, and your great return policy, but I hate you because a lot of my paycheck goes to you.
I came here this past weekend for the REI Garage Sale. It is where REI takes all the returned gear they get (clothes, shoes, kayaks, bikes, anything and everything that is returned) and they resell it at 50-80% off. REI members only. These sales are worse than Black Friday. I have been to 2 sales, and have come out with great stuff. But you have to get there early. Some of the hardcore people, bring their tents and bags and camp out the night before. So be prepared! Go early, bring sleeping gear if you want to sleep and camp out for the sale, or, for me, I am happy with a chair, blanket, water, and some snacks. This time around I came out with a Marmot jacket that was originally $120 for $48, a pair of gently used Brooks trail runners retailed at $100 for $26.00.... you get the gist. The sale and the wait is worth it.
The cashier was great and friendly! My best friend asked if they had anymore of the #optoutside pins, and she said she would go look for us, and came back with some! We will wear your proudly...
