As a vendor I would advise not participating in this market. I should have stood up and spoke out earlier. Unfortunately the need to participate in this market to make money that supports our farm is real, that kept us mostly quiet until now. Management uses personal preference to include or exclude who she chooses with no evidence to base or support decisions . Market Policy’s that are claimed to be in place do not exist, such as an advisory committee. Money coming in from the market is mismanaged, DDA has no answers, and is actively trying to suppress my inquiries. The city of Jackson has no idea what is happening to vendor fees either. With your city council Suggesting increased fees for residents, for water rates and more taxes to cover what your city should be already budgeting properly for. With the potential of $60,000 from vendor fees alone down at the farmers market, where is this funding going, or is it even being collected? The produce is all locally sourced from surrounding areas in Michigan and there were many great things you could find there! I bought my girlfriend a bunch of flowers in a mason jar at a very fair price and I will be back each week while it goes to buy her more flowers.
