This review is less about the shop itself and owner, and more about the stylist working there, Nikiah, also known as âThe Beauty Bounty.â I booked an appointment with her due to scheduling constraints, despite some red flags up front.
First, she requires a 2â3 day wig drop-off, but since she doesnât work Sundays or Mondays, she charged me a $30 same-day customization fee- this needs to be noted on her site for Tuesday appointments. Though her response had attitude, I accepted the fee. Upon arrival, I greeted the room with a âhello!â which was responded to with âwig appointment?â
While there, Nikiah took two hours to pluck the wig while messaging me on Instagram instead of speaking to me directly. She complained about the wigâs quality and price, then added an extra charge for HER taking longer than expected... Knowing I had maternity photos the following day at noon and no other options, I felt she was taking advantage. After discussing with my husband, I reluctantly agreed to the additional fee and stayed for the appointment.
I finally got in the chair at 9 PM, and the install finished around 11 PM. I paid, including the additional fees, but she later claimed my deposit wasnât included in the total she messaged me (which I confirmed before agreeing to the up-charge). 8 months pregnant and exhausted, I left without tipping, which is unusual for me.
When I got home, I realized the wig lace was ripped, over-plucked, drenched in undried glue, and lacked a wig cap underneath for protection. It was also lifting on both sides. A friend, who isnât even a stylist, drove an hour to fix it before my photos. As you can see, the final unedited result looks way better than what was originally applied.
Overall, this was an unprofessional and disappointing experience. As a new Chief for the state, I was hoping to recommend a good stylist to my colleagues, but Nikiahâs lack of professionalism and kindness ruined that. Ironically, her work station has a âGood Vibes Onlyâ signâyet she brought nothing but bad vibes, which I shouldâve known from the unhappy looks on most of her customers faces on her Instagram page.
Ladies, take my experience as a lesson, save your money and go elsewhere. Also, check the NJ cosmetology board website prior to booking...
Read moreAfter trying out about 5 other barber shops in the area, with each one ranging from mediocre to outright horrendous, I was thrilled to find this spot. I get a high fade which doesnât allow for bad barbers to hide their lack of skills. Iâve now gotten my haircut from 3 of the guys there and every one has been great. Itâs amazing how pretentious and expensive a thing like cutting a dudeâs hair can be in Jersey City - and the more expensive it is does not necessarily correlate with a better cut. You want to find a spot you can be loyal to? Go to Freestyle. No pretension, no 5 week specialist appointment master barber waiting list, no through the roof pricing, and maybe the best cut you...
Read moreOverall the Baber provides great service especially for the prices. Had a bit of a wait when I arrived but I believe itâs because he was servicing a child with special needs for which I watched him be patient and skillful. Beyond the wait I was satisfied with my haircut for which time was important because I was going out on a date. I would recommend after trying every other shop in the area Iâm content and satisfied...
