Updating my review as we have gone twice recently and the quality of the food (in particular the fries) improved quite a lot. Drinks are still very good. One thing to note, there does seem to be a difference in quality between sitting in the restaurant vs. outside in yard area. They have the same menu cooked out of the same kitchen, but it is a lot slower in the yard, perhaps it is just understaffed out there generally. The experience inside is great though you will likely need a reservation.
OLD REVIEW
Very cute and promising looking place in a bougie part of Jersey City. Overall good flavors, but small details that kept it from being an absolute success. We ordered the French dip, medium rare… and it came medium well (no pink). Instead of a classic jous for dipping it was served with a thick gravy. We also had the lamb burger which was well seasoned but a little small, and also served more medium than medium-rare. Both dishes came with fries that hit all the marks visually, but were soggy and clearly not cooked to order… an absolute shame because they even made the effort to fry herbs in with the fries to go that extra step, only to serve them limp and barely warm.
Margaritas were excellent.
Starters were both great. We had the crab cake (just one served but a solid portion) and tuna tartare (fresh, great texture, nice flavors).
Overall this is a solid spot, great drinks, solid flavor throughout… just lacking the attention detail to really stand against similar...
Read moreCame here for Hudson Restaurant Week and it wasn't bad. It was $38 for 3 courses (same as NYC Restaurant Week used to be...it's now $42 for dinner).
To start, I had the spicy tuna tartare (avocado, jalapeno, ginger, sesame soy, wonton crisps). Maybe it was my fault for ordering raw fish here but I hated it. They over-marinated it with soy sauce which either means that the fish isn't fresh, or they don't know what they're doing. The crispy wonton wrapper was a nice touch though. It was almost like an Asian flat bread but the tuna was executed very, very wrong.
For my entree, I had the lobster risotto which I really enjoyed (so that's the reason behind the three stars - I hate one course but loved the other). It has corn in it, which was fresh and not canned because a lot of the kernels were still stuck together.
For dessert, I had the flourless chocolate cake. I wasn't a huge fan but the only other choice was a banana cream pie and I'm not too fond on bananas.
One thing that I didn't like was that the whole table has to do RW. It was only two of us but I wasn't really that hungry that night. But I knew my boyfriend really wanted to try it so I ended up eating more than I would wanted have (the things one does for love!) I don't think I would do aonther HRW here but it won't stop me from coming for happy hour or their dollar oysters (doesn't hurt that it's right across from my...
Read moreWe usually never have any issues with this establishment and we always come for the corn beef because it’s delicious, but we haven’t dined here since the start of the pandemic and went last night for a late night meal. I had a kobe burger , it was about 10:15pm’ish and it was literally my first meal of the day because of my schedule. At 12am I started to get a very bad stomach ache and by 1am , I was uncontrollably throwing up and having diarrhea at the same time. I didn’t have any other meal that day so it had to be the burger because my husband ate the appetizer with me and he was fine. I do have to note that the bartender was exceptionally accommodating and she offered great customer service . However having stayed in the bathroom for 2 excruciating hours last night, this will be thlast time we will dine here. PS: In reply to the Owner’s response, I actually just recovered from Covid , but thanks for thinking of that. And just to reiterate , I hadn’t eaten anything yesterday , except at your restaurant , so if it wasn’t your Kobe burger, must have been something else from your restaurant. Or maybe one of your servers gave me covid again lol cause everyone who brought the food out didn’t...
