New York Stone — Local services in Jersey City

Avoid like the plague! They sold us seemingly beautiful quartzite that was supposed to be natural but turned out to be falsely color enhanced. The color essentially melted off, going from rich browns and greys to looking sandblasted and dull. Moreover, it has concealed cracks on the inside and was much softer than quartzite was supposed to be.

My contractor says it's "garbage stone" that is not fit for a kitchen island with bar overhang. If someone sat on the island, the whole thing could break.

I had been warned by my kitchen cabinet guy that these guys have a terrible reputation in the industry, but only after I had already signed the contract. I later heard that my fabricator also refuses to work with them directly. Somehow these reviews don't reflect how bad they are.

When the stone's many flaws were raised, NY Stone insisted there was no chemical treatment on the stone and kept trying to blame my fabricator, despite his 30 years of experience and the fact that nothing he did in handling the outside could have caused the stone to change so dramatically, all the way down to the (cracked) center of the stone.

NY Stone refused to accept a return for this basically painted stone. Not that a refund would compensate fully, since we designed our entire kitchen around this stone, including ordering custom cabinets that won't match anything else I've seen.

Don't make the same mistake, please. Save your time and don't even bother. Their stones may look beautiful in the gallery, but they could look completely different by the time they are being installed. Who knows how bad they'd have looked in a...

We used New York Stone on our recent renovation. Rami Paradise was extremely helpful finding us the perfect stones for our kitchen, butler's pantry, laundry and powder rooms. She was involved throughout the process, responding immediately when we needed her, and making sure everything was taken care of. The guys in the warehouse were also very patient and helpful, as was Rami's manager when we needed to make a change to our order. New York Stone has a wide selection, and I was able to find a particular color of marble tile for two bathrooms. I went to the warehouse in New Jersey, but they also have a showroom in Manhattan.
