Coral Cliffs Tours of Kanab — Local services in Kanab

We wanted the experience of walking through a slot canyon while we were in the Zion area. We could have driven over 3.5 hours from our place in La Verkin to the slot canyon we wanted to explore but that seemed stressful and there was a chance our rental car wouldn’t make it along the last 28 miles of gravel roads…. So we decided to hire a guide (Kyle) at Coral Cliffs Tours out of Kanab to take us to a closer canyon which requires 4WD to approach. Kanab is only about 1 hour 15 minutes from La Verkin and is a really neat town to visit and spend the day. We called in the morning and they scheduled a tour on our time table for our group of 5. Kyle, our guide, is local and provided lots of information about Best Friends, the Sand Caves, and other sites in the area. Also he suggested restaurants. Sure other groups might like to spend the time researching all of this from the internet but sometimes hype is hard to distinguish from real gems. Tour was 3 hours which translated to about $20/hour per person. We met in Kanab at their office where we could leave our car in their parking lot while we were gone. We loaded up in their 4WD vehicle and headed out to the Peekaboo slot canyon. Not to be confused with the 2 other slot canyons in Utah with the same name. The last 8 miles to get the canyon was on a dirt road with fine sand 10 inches deep. Our minivan would not have made it and even with the 4WD we were sliding around a bit and had to go slowly. How long does the slot canyon have to be for it to be worth the trip? I am not sure but this one gave us plenty of opportunities to take pictures and see the amazing features of these unique creations. This canyon is very clean and though there were several groups at the site at the same time we were able to enjoy and take our time without being distracted by others. Kyle was knowledgeable about the rocks and how these canyons are made and what to look for as we explored. Overall it was a relaxing experience. Vacations can be stressful at times trying to find the best experience with limited time and resources. Taking this tour was a great experience for our family. Kanab is also...

My girlfriend and I came to Utah for vacation from New Hampshire and when we saw this tour online, we knew we had to check it out. We booked a tour for 5 pm on a Wednesday. The group tour to Peek-a-Boo Canyon just ended up being my partner and I, so we drove with our tour guide, Josh. Right away, he explained that lately there had been some flooding in the canyon, (increasingly throughout this year of 2022) so if the rain rolled in, there may be a change of plans with the tour. He was very rule & safety conscious and wanted to ensure that we went into the tour as safely as possible. We arrived at the canyon and began our trip inwards which apparently is usually about 2 hours or so. Josh was extremely knowledgeable about the history and the formation of the canyon and even showed us some interesting things along the way, like tiny fossils embedded in stone! But soon after we started, the rain began to roll in… We trusted Josh’s judgement when he said that it may be best to turn around and head to another area that he could show us because the risk of getting caught in a flood just wasn’t worth it. He snapped a few pictures for us in the canyon and we headed back to the tour vehicle. He apologized for us not getting to finish the tour of Peek-a-Boo, but was adamant about wanting to still show us as much as he could so that the tour was fully worth it for us. He truly went above and beyond for us by showing us areas that I feel most people don’t even get to see, like hidden petroglyphs and a white sandstone cave tucked behind an old Native American cliff fortress. Josh was so easy to talk to, very funny and entertaining, and had a wealth of knowledge of not only the places he was showing us, but of the state of Utah as a whole. He even recommended some areas of the state for us to check out on the remainder of our vacation (which we did!) So although we did not get to finish Peek-a-Boo Canyon, the change of plans was for the better, as we got to see so much more than we anticipated. And it was all thanks to our incredible tour guide, Josh! Thanks again!!...

BIGGEST SHOUT OUT TO KYLE FOR BEING THE ABSOLUTE BEST!!! My husband and I experienced the 11AM Great Chamber tour and it was definitely the highlight of our trip! Kyle brought not only so much information and expertise to the tour but also immaculate conversation! Truly felt like we were good hands as everyone was so kind, accommodating, and attentive to any needs like providing an umbrella in case the sun was intense in July (luckily no need due to the lucky clouds!), allowing my husband to sit in the front of the Jeep because he was nervous about getting motion sickness (he managed to be okay despite the bumpy off road ride!) and having extra waters if necessary!

The ride there was bumpy in a fun way! The yellow jeep was a highlight as it was my husband’s mom’s dream car—it brought such a lovely omen! I describe the ride to be nature’s Disney ride of big and lil rolling bumps heheheh. Along the way up the mountain the views were stunning and you can see a stunning preview of the Chamber from a distance!

The hike itself was so doable and less intensive than I was expecting! You do have to have the mobility to walk through extremely fine sand, but the path up isn’t difficult to the point of climbing vertically with your upper body. A moderate incline up sand but before you know it you’re quickly in the chamber!

The chamber brought so many amazing photos and a nice breeze in the shade! Kyle was a professional at taking panoramas that captured the entire view! I asked if I could sit and draw a quick illustration and Kyle, my husband, and our on-tour friend Scott were so lovely to chat with while I got to work for about 20 minutes! Kyle is a jack of all trades and it was so fun learning about his various crafts, skillsets, and general life learnings. The notion of utmost beauty comes from imperfections is a mantra that will stick with me :~)

Truly a wonderful memory that will stick with us for life! Many laughs, introspections, and learnings were shared. Would 10000% recommend to anyone thinking about doing...
