This week, I went to JCPenney at Legends to buy some clothes. After making my selections (which came to $568 after discounts were applied), I stopped by the jewelry department to do some accessorizing. I spotted a cute bracelet I liked and wanted to buy. I stopped browsing and waited for a salesperson to become available. There were two associates helping one gentleman nearby. I was not far away - close enough to hear them discussing the photo he showed them on his phone of the jewelry piece his daughter sent him, and how it compared to the piece he was considering, including whether the diamonds were too small and other details. While this happened, a third associate stepped around me to get into the little gate entry to the counter I was standing beside. She did something at the register, made eye contact with me, and then left again without a word.
Meanwhile, the other two women were continuing with the gentleman. One of them also made eye contact, and never said a word to me. Ok, I don't necessarily expect them to, but I went on to stand there for a full FIVE MINUTES with none of them speaking to me to say "We'll be with your shortly" or "We're short on help but will get with you as soon as we can" or "Do you need help?" Literally felt like I didn't exist.
I finally asked one of the women if she worked here, too. She said, "Yeah, but I can't leave here. We only have so many people."
I said, "Well, I've been here literally five minutes and it would be nice to get some help."
The other woman said, "Well, we'll take care of him later and we'll come help you, then" in a snotty way, and they started giving each other those knowing looks that screamed "Will you get a load o' THIS Karen?!"
I said, "I'm not asking for you to stop anything, but it'd be nice to know whether I'll be standing here all day."
The women who "couldn't leave" said something like "Just a minute" and then left to do something through a door nearby.
I said, "Never mind. I don't like the attitude here. I'll spend my money somewhere else, I guess."
The woman then said, "KIM! Never mind. She doesn't want it anymore." (Incorrect, I did want it. I just have a tendency to expect to be treated like, you know, a customer instead of like I'm a major burden to them when I'm about to spend close to a thousand dollars.)
At the front register, when I checked out, the girl asked me if I found everything ok. I said I wasn't happy about the fact that I had stood for five minutes and that two associates blew me off.
She said, "Oh," and started ringing up my purchase.
The store lost out on another $250 from me, and I will now be shopping elsewhere. Koh's, Dillards, and Macy's are all half an hour or less from this location and the extra drive will clearly be worth it. (Especially since I emailed these details privately to the company's support email and never heard a response, either.)
EDIT TO ADD: Notice how the company's response tells me to do what I already did, which was ignored, and which was the reason I posted this review instead....
Read moreI was unaware the store closed at 9pm because I failed to look at the sign when I got there around 8:20pm. When I had picked up all of my 5 or so items, I went to try them on and the sales associate named Susan told me in a very stern and unfriendly tone âwe are closing in 5 minutes, you need to be at the front of the store before then.â She had no smile on her face at all. When I asked if I could try on my clothes really quickly to make sure they fit she rushed me by saying I better be at the front in time for close. While in the fitting room, even though the itercom told me it was closing time, she made sure to come up to the door and tell me I needed to go because it was close. Before I even checked out, the store had turned off most of the lights and I was being rushed out of the door. I understand it was close, but shouldnât this have been handled differently and friendlier? I wouldnât have minded simply being told they closed at 9 and if I could quickly try on clothes and head to the front. I only had a few items so it wouldnât have taken me long and I didnât appreciate being rushed. This whole experience ruined my view...
