Terrible service. Tried to get my laptop fixed and they never told me that I would end up with a Franken-laptop and no original part replaced. I brought in a ThinkPad carbon x1 with Windows 10 Pro, 16 gig ram, and 1T SSD. I was told first the motherboard wasn't working and then after the replacing motherboard the SSD memory card doesn't work. After everything was replaced I was told that the wifi card doesn't work. Pretty much the entire internal computer components were changed besides the cooling fan. When I came and picked it up, I kept finding out one by one things weren't done up to standards and was getting lesser of a computer than originally dropped off. I had to question about it to find out that I was getting half of everything a 8 gig ram instead of 16, half the memory ssd, and to top it all off a non licensed windows 11 home edition on it. Precious data from the previous memory card couldn't even be extracted as a minimum requirement I ask for and was assured that at the minimum that could have been done. I wish I was consulted about all of this before the work was completed. I was absolutely shocked at the poor level of service I got. The owner was respectful, but had the audacity to blame the technician working on it who weren't present at the time and bared no responsibility. He even said that he had to make a profit somehow adding on the fees. They didn't even offer to waive any fees and I ended up leaving there with nothing bc there was no use at that point leaving with a shell of a laptop. After over a month of working with these folks on a $1,600 laptop, I'm down -$99 and without any laptop computer. It's insulting that they turned a $1,600 laptop into a $400 laptop and tried to pass it off to me. I get that some things are out of their control, but you can't put someone's computer together without consulting them the full detail of what they are getting. If I didn't ask the questions I asked, I would have paid in full and taken it home not knowing any better until I get windows error messages harassing me to type in a product key. Not thrill with their service at all and I can't recommend this place to anyone from what I experienced. I almost had these folks build computers for...
Read moreI have a laptop that I only use when I travel and over the years it has gotten sluggish and problematic. I always managed to work around the issues it had and tolerate the bad performance. I was getting ready for a trip and I always get out my laptop early to get all the updates, make sure it will start, etc. This time it did not come on, no worry, I have seen this before and have managed to it to going … but not this time. It was not stone dead but had a “system” issue.
First let me say personal computers have been part of my life for about 35 years and I have never taken a computer to a repair shop, but I knew I did not have what I need to trouble shoot my laptop.
After a quick Google search, I found NerdsToGo Computer Service near me and went there right away. When I arrived, the shop was in full COVID-19 mode with a phone number to call on the door. We chatted on the phone and I was told what they needed and how to get my computer from my hands into their hands.
About two hours later I received a text with a diagnosis and a course of action and the cost. We had already discussed the possibility of it being too costly to warrant a repair. The problem was a failing hard drive, the solution was to replace the hard drive with a two-terabyte solid state hard drive. The cost was reasonable and then I told them to make the repair. A little over an hour later I received a text to tell me the computer was ready for pickup at my convenience. Due to having a non mechanical hard drive, my laptop is faster and runs better than when it was new.
I am very satisfied with NerdsToGo...
Read moreTook in an Epson EcoTank all-in-one that had been flipped to the ground leaving the scanning bar off track. I had checked in advance with NerdsToGo letting them know the manufacturer, model number and a photo of how far off the scanning bar was before I brought it in to confirm they could work on it. I always understood that once they got into the machine some things might be broken and need to have parts replaced and that it might be too expensive to repair and there were no guarantees. After taking it in and paying the $99.00 diagnostic fee (which would go toward the “repair”) they called saying they had done some more research and realized that, given how far off the track the bar was, this was something they were not comfortable fixing and required an Epson-certified tech to fix as it probably involved plugging things into the motherboard. Although I realized that this might not work out from the get-go, I thought they would know if they wouldn’t be able to work on it from the beginning. The machine was never even opened. I am frustrated I paid $99.00 since the knew the make, model, and had a photo of the issue, only to do any research after I brought it in. The people seem lovely and professional and I hope this was a one-off for the company and not the way they normally operate. (I’m attaching the photo I had sent to NerdsToGo). Going forward, I hope they realize they cannot work on an Epson EcoTank all-in-one...
