A lesson in humility after being treated like royalty outside the US for a week; long hours of travel can be rough on ankles and knees so if you want to relax with your feet up on a chair don’t think about sitting in front of the reception ladies because they’ll immediately come and reprimand you. It’s unacceptable in the United States to have your socks and shoes off and sit Indian style on a chair because it doesn’t go with the aesthetics of United Lounge in NOLA (MSY). I would have been okay if they went around told EVERYONE who sat with their feet up. But, since I was the only one who got told and the other half dozen people sitting the same didn’t, I’m feeling kinda humiliated and embarrassed since she said it loud enough they could probably hear it back in the French Quarter. Moral of the story: if you want to relax, sit on the other side of the lounge where the etiquette police at the reception station can’t see you because those passengers were never approached. Heaven forbid they get up from the desk instead of sit and gossip for 4 1/2 hours straight. My swollen ankles will surely thank United Lounge in NOLA (MSY) come tonight back at O’Hare. I recommend we all just stick with Delta since they have recliners in their lounge and don’t make a...
Read moreIt looked nice. I’d never been in the MSY United lounge before. I walked up to the desk asked how the receptionist was doing and she muttered something about how tired she is and how much her legs were hurting. Then tells me to eat my beignets while they’re hot. “Or at least that’s what I would suggest. You can’t bring them in.” I respond with “oh ok I’ll see if I can fit them in my bag” The receptionist gives me a disgusted up and down look. Awkwardly, I say I’m going to share them with friends then move on to a real question. I asked her about a promotion I’d heard online through my credit card. She said there was no promotion. I said, “oh sorry, I’ll go back out to the lobby to see where I saw it.” She said across the room as I’m walking away ”the promotion doesn’t exist because we don’t take that card” as well as something else I couldn’t really hear. I would have bought a pass if that’s the case, but I don’t want to speak with her again. The entire interaction felt uncomfortable, judgmental, and rude. Just unprofessional. She could have given me this information without treating me like an idiot or making the...
Read moreSo I paid $500 for a United club card supposedly good at any United Club and they refused entry supposedly because I wasn’t flying United today (flying a different airline bc it had nonstop to my destination and United didn’t). What a scam and waste of money! I’m definitely canceling. This was the first time I tried to use it when it was open. Another time it was closed already (7 pm) in a different airport. Read the fine print people. They’ll take every opportunity to take your money for a service then deny you the service. I suspect if I were a man or dressed better (I’m in sweats) they may have treated me better. I definitely feel mistreated and taken advantage of. United Club don’t sell passes then deny the service to members who...
