I had a horrible experience at the Chicos store in Kennewick. My friend and I, both teenagers, had just bought shoes and we then went outside the coulumbia center mall when our paper bag ripped in the wind. We walked into Chicos because it was the closest store, hoping to get a bag. As we approached, we noticed some customers laughing and staring out the window, but we didnât think much of it.
When we walked in, the employee (or possible manager) gave us a dirty look right away, which felt uncomfortable. I waited for her to finish helping another customer, then explained what had happened to our bag, which was clearly ripped in half and we where struggling to hold both boxes inside. Before I could even finish explaining, she rudely nodded her head and said we needed to pay. I then asked if we could pay for it, and she snapped âNoâ without any explanation after she said we needed to pay?
At this point, I was shocked because the whole time we were being polite and respectful. It seemed like we were being refused service because of our age and appearance, which was incredibly frustrating. Things got even worse when customers jumped into the conversation and started talking to us like we were clueless, saying we were in the âwrong storeâ in a condescending tone. These were the same older women who had been laughing at us from the window. It was clear at this point everyone in there didnât like us for no reason other than our age and that we werenât âtheir typeâ of customer.
This experience was both embarrassing and shocking . Iâve heard about situations like this, but never imagined how bad it would feel to be treated this way. It felt like we were being judged and discriminated against for no reason. I will never comeback here again, and I wouldnât recommend it to anyone, especially if you donât fit their narrow idea of who belongs...

My friend and I, both 14-year-old Latinas, walked in, and we asked the employee (who mightâve been the manager) for a new bag because ours had broken in the wind. She was extremely rude and said, âNo,â in a really condescending tone, like we were bothering her for no reason. We were just being polite and respectful, but she treated us like we were stupid or just trying to cause trouble.
When we asked if we could pay for a bag, she refused to let us do so, which was confusing and frustrating. Meanwhile, some older customers who were already in the store started laughing and making us feel even more uncomfortable. They had no idea what was going on but still decided to talk to us like we were clueless or doing something wrong.
It honestly felt like the whole atmosphere changed just because we were two young Latina girls, and I really donât think that should ever happen in a store. We were just trying to get a replacement bag after ours broke, but instead, we were met with rude behavior and unnecessary judgment. Definitely wonât...
Read moreLots of the blouses and outfits are perfect for a professional wardrobe. Each one is flattering and interesting, but they're all similar in style so none of them would be unusually memorable, and they will be easy to mix and match. I did not see a single item in the store for less than $99, most of the pieces I liked were $120 or more. Staff is friendly and helpful and took really good care of Mom as she was trying to find an outfit...
