My experience with Shel’s Bridal has been one of unprofessionalism. While I would recommend the purchase of a dress from her establishment, I would not recommend having her or her business associates make alterations. The dress that we purchased was beautiful and extremely reasonable when it came to pricing. However, when we came in (several) times for alteration appointments Shel was often friendly, yet unprofessional. During each session she made negative comments about her staff, and customers: brides, The Vault customers, and other wedding party guests. She also went into details regarding downtown Kenosha businesses that were unhappy with her due to poor business choices on her end. This made the experience uncomfortable, and made me question her personal and business integrity. However we started with alterations so I felt we needed to finish. We purchased the dress almost a year out from our date, however the dress was not complete and ready for pick up until the day before my wedding. Upon entering Shel’s to pick up my dress, I asked to try the dress on for a final time- during previous alteration meetings many things were done to the dress that I did not ask to be altered and I had to ask several times for things to be taken out or reversed. Shel blamed this on her staff and implied their incompetence. Additionally I noticed a snag on the front and center of my dress, when I brought it to Shel’s attention, I was assured it would be steamed out. This never happened and I now have a dress with a large two string snag in the front. Additionally, the final alterations in the bustle were incorrect and my mom ended up fixing the dress so the bustle wasn’t too long when up. Shel was not available for my final fitting, and when I brought this to her attention she offered an apology however we were out of time in regards for waiting for things to get done. Shel and her staff are absolutely amazing. We started using Shels Bridal for some of our pageant gown purchases. I recently have purchased my wedding dress through there and despite my body image issues after health issues I not only found the perfect dress, but feel amazingly beautiful in it and it is something that I normally would not have necessarily chosen for myself without their support. A few super small teaks was all it took to make my heart overflow and make me never want to take off the dress. I can not wait till our date in Aug to once again put it one. All of our fitting appointments have been fun and relaxing and all the staff is amazingly accommodating

Angel is my wedding dress hero and without him I would still be without a dress. He is also another amazing encourager for my daughter and supports her journey with so much heart.

Michelle is usually at the front desk when we arrive and is always so super sweet and makes sure we have everything we need to be comfortable for fittings and browsing for new dresses and is always there to lend an honest opinion and professional help when needed.

If you want that one on one experience where the staff will honestly learn your name and learn your wants and fears about formal wear the Shels is the place you want to go. You will never get the kind of service they offer...

I previously had a good experience at Shel’s, but after my most recent visit, I would strongly caution others to stay away. I brought my dress in to have a simple bustle added, but the end result was a complete disappointment.

My initial appointment was with Shel, which gave me confidence, but my dress ended up being passed between multiple people without my knowledge. I was told Angel would handle the bustle, yet when I picked up my dress, he struggled to demonstrate how it worked and even questioned “whoever did this.” Later, I learned that Brandy was actually the one who worked on my dress.

The bustle itself was poorly executed. My gown already had a line of delicate buttons, yet additional bulky white buttons were sewn on the outside, ruining the look. They were uneven, attached with mismatched stitching, and completely out of place on a wedding gown. Additional buttons were placed further down the dress, leaving the dress looking cinched when not bustled.

The lack of communication and the poor workmanship left me devastated. Thankfully, per my request, I was refunded and able to get my dress fixed elsewhere, but I would not recommend this shop to anyone — especially for something as important as a...
