Edit to reply to the owner’s reply: Thank you for the response! But it would have been impossible to not have seen me as I purposely walked by the three associates multiple times during my 10 minute visit and even looked at things at the counter where you all were standing. I did also spend a few minutes by the switch game section which is within eyeshot of the counter. The third employee even left the counter area and was working on something in the front left of the store and I walked by them there without them saying anything to me.
It doesn’t matter what your intent was or is with the conversation you were having because from my point of view it was negative and unprofessional. Here what I gathered: management is incredibly frustrated with the employee in question and is upset that they have to take on more work and more responsibilities due to their poor performance and poor attendance. Manager has to open the store alone frequently. This isn’t managers only job, and at their other job they are also a manager and they know how to handle these situations. Employee in question is going through a lot, and you all sympathize with them but feel they aren’t telling you the whole story or being totally open about what they are going through. Other employee often gives rides to work but feels their good deed is often gone unappreciated. Employees should uphold their own end of their job responsibilities no matter how much others like them otherwise disciplinary action or termination should be followed through with. Emphasis on the no matter how much others like them part. Manager must protect their team and uphold their standards and if that means firing the employee in question, then so be it, because it is negatively affecting the team, the morale and the work load responsibilities and this cannot be tolerated any longer.
I get it, you’re frustrated with this employee but you choosing to talk about it in front of customers is what will negatively affect your business. And if in fact you did not see me which I do not believe, then this should be a huge issue to you and your team that someone can be in your store for a full 10 minutes and be unnoticed by 3 employees even after walking past them multiple times.
Original review below. I’ve been in there twice now looking to buy some games as I see they have a buy 5 get the 6th one free promotion on switch games. Both times I was never even acknowledged let alone greeted. This last time 11/14/24 about 7:45pm, I walked the store for about 10 minutes while listening to the employees gossip about another employee and how they plan to fire him. I overheard the entire story about his personal life and how frustrated the employees are with him and all the extra work that they have to do because of it. The employee who I believe is the manager spoke so passionately about the situation they were in that you could hear him crystal clear all the way at the back of the store. Not once was I looked at, spoken to or acknowledged by the THREE employees, and I was the only person in the store. The previous time the two employees were sitting behind the counter and talking to themselves but did not say a word to me while I was in the store. I approached and asked a question about a game I was interested in only to be met with “I’m not sure” as an answer and then swiftly returning to their conversation together. It’s a shame, this store has nice items and would have happily spent my money at this establishment had there been any semblance of customer service. I will bring my...
Read moreI used to enjoy this place and thought they were great until recently. I've been a customer at this location for about 10 years now. I'm leaving a 1 star because of how long I've been shopping at this location and today is the day where I am finally saying never again.
2 weeks ago I brought in 4 Pokémon game boy games to have the batteries replaced. The team was friendly and helpful and explained to me questions I had and showed me some of how the process was done. After they tested the work I brought the games home.
Jump ahead 10 days later, 1 of my games no longer holds a save file. I test my others and I isolated the problem to a battery issue from the replacement that was done at Disc Traders Kentwood. I visit them to see if they would inspect my game and the person working told me that the person who does the replacement battery job on games is not working today, but encourages me to check in tomorrow. I go home and call the next day but missed the guy. I'm told to come in tomorrow between 10 and noon.
Today I go in and the person who did the repair was working. I told him what's going on and ask him if he can inspect my game and if there is a warranty offered on repairs. He takes my game and seems to be bothered about my request. He makes a save file and says that since the file is saved its not the battery and diagnosis it as something else (which it isn't) and refused to check my cartridge to see if his repair could have gone wrong. He refers me to a different business and asks that I go there instead.
I leave the store for the reccomendation and they help me, and diagnose the problem as the battery and say it was not installed correctly. They show me what went wrong, explain to me why the problem continued to happen, and they replace the battery in my cartridge the correct way. They allow me to hangout to ensure that it really was resolved after the repair was finished as well. I will now be doing my business at Pixel Perfect Games moving forward, as well as buying any retro games there.
I'm leaving this review as a 1 because the person at Disc Traders did not do the job correctly, did not want to take ownership for his mistake, did not offer me a warranty, or do anything to help me, told me that I needed to go elsewhere for help. For these reasons I will not do business here any longer, and will continue to reccomend everone I know to Pixel Perfect Games
Update as of 1/4/24, all 4 of my pokemon games were repaired incorrectly by Disc Traders Kentwood, and I Will never go back to this...
Read moreLeft a 1 star for the Grandville location and got a response saying under new management and give them another chance. Given how far away I live, I don't get over there very often. I tried this location because I was in the area and wanted to give them another chance. Not sure if the same owner anymore as it all has changed. My rating is not because of all of this but providing a preface to this. Went in and nothing is in order anymore. They used to have their products grouped by letter so even if it was exactly alphabetical you could still narrow your search but everything is a disaster now. They also used to have a bigger focus on games which is what drew me in bur their selection is just pitiful now. Only could find 1 thing I wanted and when I went to purchase it, they said they didn't have it. Such a disappointment to get to the checkout with something you actually want and get a we don't have it and blame the system. No, you are just so unorganized you can't find anything. Apparently it's only changed for the worse. If you want to look for games, try any competition in the area of this place. They have gone so far downhill in the last 5 years it's...
