Update (August 2024) I seriously donāt understand the recent reviews that suggest this is a great store. Some people must have much lower expectations about how a store presents itself. I only went in because there was something I needed and didnāt want to wait to order or go to another town to look. The one womenās dressing room is basically gross: torn wallpaper, broken door handles and a light thatās been out since at least April.
When visiting family in Kerrville, a trip to Belk was a given - now, not so much. This store is consistently a MESS, especially in the Women's plus size area. The clothes are packed on racks with many falling to the floor, and those on shelves are unfolded and jumbled. I often see workers just standing around visiting instead of working their areas. Dressing rooms are in bad shape - stained carpet and gouges in the wall. The entire store needs renovating. I'm giving it two stars instead of one for the highlight of the store - the men's area which is always neatly organized. I have contacted this store often about these issues and have even sent pictures of the mess. I have been contacted and told that it would improve but nothing seems to change. Sadly, I think Belk knows they are the only true department store in town and feel they don't need to even try to be a nice place to shop.
Addition: I was back in this Belk last weekend and guess what? NO IMPROVEMENT! This time there were 3 z-racks full of clothing that I had to move or maneuver around to get to the wall to see what was there. Two of the racks weren't even clothing for the area I was in. And again, employees doing more visiting with each other than working. I think I am throwing in the towel, waving the white flag...I have a Belk card but it does me little good as there are so many exclusions. I'm sure I'm not one of their big spenders, so I doubt they'll miss me anyway.
Editedā¦4 years later (June 2023) I donāt understand recent reviews that say this is an awesome store, that itās neat and easy to find things. What I experienced today was just more decline in an already mess of a store. Packed clothing racks, with little in the right place, and clothes on the floor, purses piled on top of purses, and in the wrong areas. The dressing room is still dark and dingy. Once again, the womenās plus area is impossible to shop in due to a total lack of organization. I overheard the woman in the shoe department, telling someone that she had been on vacation for a week and this was the mess she came back to. If that is the case, the manager is at fault. If thereās only one person that works in an area and they go on vacation, the manager needs to be over there straightening sip the area. The Kerrville Belk has become. Undoubtedly one of the worst stores I have ever been in.
My original review gave two stars because the menās area was always nicely organized. I wasnāt in that area today, but what I experienced everywhere else brought my review down to one star.
Update: December 2023 Nothing changes for the better in this store. If anything, it continues to deteriorate. Even the once organized menās department is now in shambles. Belk used to be the go to department store in Kerrville, but no longer. Now itās just a dump. I have reached out to corporate more than once, and get the same reply.
April 2024 Hard to believe that this store could get any worse but it has. Itās more of a dump than ever. If you have never shopped at Belk, you will also find quality clothing, housewares, fragrances, bedding & more. I have this thing about nice, quality menswear. I don't mind spending a little extra for quality. But somehow aBelk 've come to expectWhen I go into my local Belk, I feel like I am met with this explosion of color. I'm sure there is some sort of retail science that knows exactly how to elicit that response from me (I'm so predictable). But I love it!! So they know what they are doing. Modern & up-to-date. I especially like the PGA Tour line. Very high-quality fabrics that hold up well on those hot central Texas afternoons on the golf course. The middle of a round of golf is not the time to find out that your ill-fitting, cotton twill Dockers are uncomfortable. I hate Dockers. You cannot find those PGA Tour brand, microfiber, 4way stretch fabrics, anywhere else in Kerrville & the price is so reasonable. Typically in the $30-$40 price point. Incredible! I don't know how they do it. When it comes to things like blazers & sports coats, my local Belk is well stocked with variety. Often with colors, you might not expect. Again, with innovative, summer-weight fabric that breathes. They hold up under the central Texas, Hil Country sun. You won't find that quality at JC Penny or Walmart. There was this one time when I found this sports coat I really wanted. That particular day they we're running this special ... buy 1 blazer or sports coat, get 2 free!! Amazing! I wasn't particularly looking for it, but I walked out with 3 very nice jackets. Add simple blazer to just about any trousers or even nice blue jeans, you have a mature, gentlemanly presentation. They work equally well at the casual office or on a date. I won't buy my clothing over the internet. But sometimes, when I am in the store, the staff might suggest placing an order for me. Something I just have to have (hey I want what l want). Typically, however, I have to touch it & know what I am getting. For instance, I recently bought a Bill Adler tooled leather, feathered conch belt from Poshmark. The belt is absolutely beautiful & the one I bought was intended to replace the one I have. I wore it out. However, I wasn't careful. I thought I was getting a size 38.5. Turns out this belt was a size 34 (guess I better lose some weight). One of my "things" are buttons. Isn't it so dang irritating to buy a button-down collar or a blazer, then 3 weeks later the buttons fall off or break at the cleaners? Just because the brand uses cheap buttons. My clothing has to fit well. So I will pay to have something tailored, if necessary. When I buy from Belk, I find that I don't have to pay much on the back end. Because Belk offers such a wide selection. The Belk brand truly is "Modern Southern Style." It would be a real shame to lose our local Belk retail store. If that happened, I guess I would have to travel to San Antonio or New Braunfels to shop. Texas is pretty big & that would be over a 100 miles round trip. I live within walking distance of my Belk store. There have been many an evening when I am bored around the house. Belk is open until 9 pm, so I walk over & kind of "window shop." Ostensibly to get some ideas. But I have to leave my wallet at home. How many times have I gone "for a walk," & wind-up spending a couple of hundred $$?? Belk rocks!...

This evening, we went in to purchase a few items, when it came time to pay they couldn't accept cash and required a card for a special order item. Which in my case is no problem, but, the "New POS System" that was apparently installed this week declined my debit card and I immediately received a notifacation from my bank via text and email saying unfortunately your debit card has been locked for the next 24hrs due to suspected fraudulent charges and I will need to call the fraud department to resolve this issue. Why would that even happen? Now I can't use my card for the next 24hrs. This messes up my entire schedule and things I have lined up with auto pay. I have never received that notification in the 5 years using this bank.
The gentleman helping us was very nice and does his job well, he called the "manager" over to help us who was laughing about the situation and said "yeah, sorry, it's been doing that. There's nothing I can do for you". I was so pissed off at her for laughing at me over this I wanted to say many things but, that is not the right thing to do, regardless of the situation. Neither is laughing for that matter.
She also said that the system should be fixed within the next couple of weeks and that unfortunately the current coupon discount I was using would not be valid at that time and I would have to pay full price by then.
I suggest she is removed from that position immediately, also, when we were leaving she and the other women that work at the store were sitting over in the women's department gossiping and chatting it up. Must be nice to get paid to sit and talk all day, the store looked like crap everywhere except for the men's section where the nice older gentleman was working and I mean he was actually working, everything was tidy and neat. The women's and kids areas look like a cheap resale store in some ghetto city.
I will be contacting the main office and filing a formal complaint, for being belittled...
