Mel Fisher's Treasures — Local services in Key West

This is a late review!! I purchased from Skip El Cazador pendant from this store a couple of years ago and had high expectations for the quality, especially since I was told it featured 14k gold holding the coin. However, last year I noticed the gold around the coin had turned brownish, which was concerning. I contacted the store, shared photos, receipts, and the certificate, and was told to send the pendant back for inspection.

Skip the store’s representative called me and explained that the gold was indeed 14k and that they had cleaned it with a yellow cloth, which they would send me. While I understand the coin might develop a patina over time, gold typically doesn’t patina the way I observed. I was hoping for more transparency regarding the authenticity of the 14k gold, as my experience suggests it may not be genuine.

I haven’t been able to visit the Keys to address this in person yet, but I plan to do so this year. It’s important for future customers to ask and feel confident that they’re purchasing authentic 14k gold, and my experience has left me uncertain about that claim.

How can you claim this is an 300.00 shipwreck coin when its so highly polished and bright their is no eye appeal? So polished the details are gone,it is junk silver now no matter what documents you send. I understand cleaning it up some but good lord these pictures were at 7pm on an over cast day.this thing is absolutely ridiculous,no indication of water marks or even being old.after I take it and have it checked to be sure it's even real silver I will have to tone just to have some eye appeal. Definitely not worth the price,I have some 8 reales that cost less than half of what this was that looks 100% better.i can show you what an 230 yr old coin is supposed to look like vs an ruined "shipwreck " coin that is only worth junk silver....Definitely will never order again. Megan and the rest of the staff at Mel Fisher’s Treasures were excellent. I spent several hours on different days deciding which coin to purchase. There was no pressure in purchasing and they were more than willing to show me what they had in store. I ended up with a beautiful grade 1, 8 reales coin from the El Cazador which I absolutely had to have wrapped in gold and put on a chain. It is a treasure to proudly share.
