Strunk Ace Hardware Inc — Local services in Key West

Despite the limited selection of certain things (that is usually on hand at HD), I have gone to Strunk Ace Hardware in the past for their customer service. I was disappointed on my last (and perhaps final) trip there though, when I asked for a self closing shower valve, the only one left was on display. They said it may he a week before more arrive, so I asked if I could just buy the floor display model. The plumbing section attendant said no, I could wait until more come in next week. I was on a time line for this project so I appealed to him again, saying this one would be fine, didn't really care about the wear it received, he then gave me a rather loud and firm sounding "NO" and turned around and walked away, leaving me and the other gentleman that was helping me (who was nice but didn't know plumbing). Rather put off by this fella, I set down the other items I was purchasing and left the store immediately. Didn't really get a friendly vibe from the front cashier either. As a long-term resident of Key West, Florida, I have received consistently superior service from the employees at Strunk Ace Hardware on Eaton Street. The employees in each area of the store are always happy to help customers and are technically astute concerning their products. There is a wide variety of products from specialty screws to barbecue grills, building materials, paints, etc., all at reasonable prices. Recently I came into the store looking for a utility cart with certain dimensions. Chris was kind enough to help me look it up on line, ordered the cart, and a few days later the cart was put together and waiting for me. So, when you are looking for something for your house or yard, don't run all over town. Go to Strunk Ace Hardware first!...

Staff was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Mentioned my military background and after providing proof of service, I promptly recieved a 10% discount and a "thank you sir for your service", from the cashier. Its not about the money folks, it's a respect thing. Some places like the BIG ORANGE BOX don't get this concept. Earlier in the day, I was told by a manager at the BIG ORANGE BOX, " Sorry, but your the wrong kind of Veteran to get a discount". I didn't know there was a "wrong kind of Veteran".
