Now, I am not a big fan of big box pet stores -- not to say mom and pop's can't be just as bad -- I even worked at the supplier of animals for big box and mom and pop's in the Midwest, so I know how the supply chains for these things work. I am also very knowledgeable about animal husbandry, and I like to make a point of checking out how these stores are taking care of their animals. I know that in a business environment, animals often do not get appropriate space, that's understandable, but to neglect them as well is what I do not like. I do tend to notice almost every time I have to visit a Petsmart -- or Petco, what have you-- that the fish area looks horrible, with many dead fish, emaciated reptiles, dead insects, etc., but as there are not many reptile supply places nearby, I opt for Petsmart a lot of the time. I cannot speak to a couple of months ago before Melissa worked there, but when I walked in to grab some supplies two days ago, I was truly blown away. Though, at the time I had no idea why things were looking so great. The fish were all healthy, not a dead one in sight. The tanks were bright and beautiful and kept well cleaned, the turtle had a lot of space.
Today, I returned and I met Melissa, I asked if she was the reason everything looked so good. During our conversation and even just looking around, you could really feel Melissa's passion for the animals showing through her work and words. She reminded me of my own passion and care for animals. Even the animals she wasn't as familiar with, she was very eagerly learning about and working as hard as she could with a short staff. I was blown away by this Petsmart, but mostly Melissa.
I understand that a lot of people that work in these positions really are trying their best with what they have/know, but I have NEVER seen anyone do it like Melissa. This woman cares about animals and does not just treat them like product. Fish are especially treated as expendable and replaceable, barely anyone bats an eye about fish husbandry other than hardcore keepers. But to show such care to probably the most often neglected and abused animal was truly beautiful. Thank you for what you're doing Melissa, and honestly would love to join and...
Read moreI went in to shop for some dubia roaches for my leopard gecko and they were extremely pricey, 20 bucks for around 30 of them. But the bigger issue was that they had a baby leopard gecko there with shed stuck to it and normally that is an issue but it was especially bad because the shed was stuck to its eyes and it couldn't open its eyes. Its eyes were also looking pretty red which is so heartbreaking and sad to see. The employees were at the cashier gossiping with each other and instead one of them could have been helping the poor leopard gecko. This was REALLY upsetting to witness and I won't shop there again because this behavior from pet stores and their employees is...
Read moreThis used to be my go to doctor for years. But ever since dr. Johnson left and they relocated it’s just not the same. The staff seems very disorganized and irresponsible. My dog was in there the other day I picked him up for a check up the nurse gave me heart worm preventative. Then a couple days later I brought my dog back for teeth cleaning and pick him up and they gave me ANOTHER heart worm preventative… so I asked is this right I was just here the other day and they gave me one? She said let me check and they had ZERO record of him ever coming in or receiving him heart worm this year. Both times I dropped my dogs off the...
