Not good…for several reasons. I brought my wife in for a medical emergency a few nights ago. When we entered, I thought we were lucky because of the few people waiting. Boy was I wrong! We arrived at 12:30 am and finally made it out of there at 7:00 am. Here are some concerns: ~The girl who checked us in had no compassion or personality. She appeared miserable. ~My wife’s blood pressure was extremely high. There was no concern from the nurse to lower it with medication. She was sent back out to the waiting area and was told that someone would come out to check it in a short while. No one ever did until we asked. (My wife’s primary doctor’s office was appalled by this, claiming that her BP was in “stroke range.”) ~I reported to the front desk that the table next to me was being invaded by ants due to a spilled drink that was there for who knows how long. A custodian came with a rag and killed what he saw. After he left, the remaining ants felt safe to return. ~A young girl was brought to the waiting room in a wheelchair. She was obviously in distress, screaming at the top of her lungs and hacking up phlegm. She was BEGGING for help. Nobody cared to come to her aid. This continued for about 15-20 minutes before she was taken back. Even though we felt horrible for her, my wife and I (the only other people in the waiting room) actually had to go outside to escape the violent noise and spit. When we returned, I had to approach the front desk about the reddish brown spit-up on the floor. The gentleman seemed like I was bothering him and said, “I’m not surprised.” Later, my wife was told by the nurse that this woman had consumed a bottle of liquor. (What happened to patient confidentiality?) ~I witnessed at least 2 others just give up waiting and leave. I had to laugh when I looked up and read a sign in the waiting area. It read, “EMERGENCY WAITING.” This oxymoron made me chuckle. If you have an emergency at this ER, you can expect to wait and wait and wait again. On the plus side, there was one nurse assistant who actually felt bad about everything and tried her best. Unfortunately, after spending the entire night waiting for help, her niceness wasn’t enough to make up for everything else. All in all, if we have another medical emergency that needs immediate attention, it’d probably be quicker if I worked toward to getting my own medical degree and taking care...
Read moreI came in for L&D, when I got there I was in active labor, my contractions were back to back, they were trying to make me complete paperwork between contractions and I had little time to catch my breath it was all about the paperwork and nothing else, I had to instruct the nurse to let my husband complete the rest as I was in so much pain. The nurses during my recovery were extremely unprofessional, I was instructed to do my own abdominal massages, I had to remind them to take my blood pressure, nobody checked my feet or hands for swelling. I had my baby after midnight so the following day I had to inform my job, inform my kid’s school to ensure a relative could pick them up, submit my disability etc. I was shunned for prioritizing that over completing the paperwork for the BC (I was told it had to be complete prior to discharge) I told the nurse I would do it when my husband returned from taking our dog out she said the father didn’t need to be on the birth certificate as long as I signed it was okay, i informed her that the father is my legal HUSBAND and we would complete the paperwork for our child together. There were comments about us keeping the industrial lights off and only using the natural lighting. Comments made about me refusing the pain medication “you’re scared to take the addictive ones” they acted as if it was an inconvenience for them to give our little guy a bath and was insinuating that we should do it at home. The bed was awful, it was a birthing bed and not an actual hospital recovery bed, I could not elevate my feet, I had to sleep in the recliner. I was also told I wasn’t moving around enough 5-6 after labor I was using restroom alone and taking showers on my own, what do you expect for me to do laps in the room? Just very unprofessional! Our discharge nurse was amazing and kind. We were so prepared to leave the staff kept asking if everything was okay and how we were treated, we didn’t even bother to complain we just wanted out of there without any confrontation. Those nurses never once wrote on our board so we could know their names and who our doctors were for the day. The housekeeper treated us with more decency and professionalism than our recovery nurses. They said whatever came to their minds, no filter and no regard to if they were...
Read moreI went to the labor and delivery unit for the first time during my pregnancy, i’m six months along now. had excruciating pain through my back up into my ribs and knew something wasn’t right because i wasn’t normal pain or discomfort i had previously from baby movements, heartburn, round ligament pain etc… I went to the ER first and they told me to go up to that unit so a lady took me. First arriving at the desk while describing my pain i encountered having eyes rolled at me and complete dismissal of it all. I felt very unwelcome. The same blonde lady that rolled her eyes tried to send me back to the ER but ended up checking me in up there. The doctor dismissed my concerns of my gallbladder (my sister and mother have had theirs removed) and telling me everything was fine probably just heartburn but i know it wasn’t. i wasn’t even experiencing heartburn at the time. After i told him this he continued to talk to me like i was a child or ignorant one and tell me i ate too much (i had two slices of pizzas two hours prior to the pain starting). i remained calm and nice because i truly just wanted help and to make sure that my child was okay, he then continued to explain to me that it could be my gallbladder but if it is they weren’t willing to do an ultrasound on a Saturday night (it was 5pm) because they didn’t deem it necessary and i said so basically i would have to be dying to get an ultrasound on my gallbladder and the nurse said basically. then upon asking if they would check it in the ER, they stated i could go wait but it would be pointless. i felt absolutely dismissed with my concern even though the doctor shared the same concern after it was all said and done. they seemed as though i was a bother to have even came into the hospital and i experienced allot of unprofessionalism in gestures and the way i was spoke too. i will never go back to this unit. i’m beyond glad i have a different hospital to have my child at because i would never seek help from any of these doctors again. After leaving i came to realize so many other people that have went here or birthed here experienced the same behaviors or worse. i’m utterly disgusted and disappointed in my experience. if i could leave zero...
