Get your estimate for custom boxes, packing and shipping in writing. Without that, your shipping cost is liable to go up like ours did. $30.00 up for the boxing and packing, and $10.00 up for the shipping with no explanation for the difference. A $40.00 increase might not seem like a lot to some, but to an artist, it is a lot. Believe me. And although The UPS Store will honor the declared value if they pack and box your artwork, from what I observed and we discussed, they tend not to pack as well as you can do yourself with a little time, effort, common sense, and boxes made of double 275 gsm cardboard. Plus bubble pack, styrofoam corners and styrofoam peanuts. All available at Home Depot for much, much less than you pay at The UPS Store for their packing services and materials. I would not have minded the price gouging so much if they had not acted like it was an inconvenience to them for us to be shipping our artwork with UPS. We were told by the person making our box that he might not be able to make it before the end of the day by the shipping deadline so that it would ship with our other packages that we had packed ourselves, and there was still 4 hours lead time to the shipping deadline. Fortunately one of the employees said she would do her best to make sure that everything went out together and on that day, which she did and it did. Had it not been for her intervention, I would have given a one...
Read moreYesterday the man working in the store was totally rude and unprofessional. As we need a passport photo for a 1 week old newborn, we went to this store in advance to check if they can provide this service (we are aware it's not easy). We were told to come the next days, bringing a white sheet to put on the floor and lay the baby on it. We made all the way to the store trying to keep the baby awake, but as we arrived, the man told us that they don’t do passport photos for infants “because they don’t keep their eyes open” and suggested to go all the way to Portland. After our complaint he made a super quick try and he immediately gives up, because he simply didn’t want to do the job and he was annoyed by our simple request to have a passport photo. I don’t know if he was too lazy to do his job or if he was annoyed because we are two dads. In any case, it was an awful experience. Thankfully, as we were almost kicked out of the store, another customer helped us to find another place where we could solve our issue. She showed some humanity we were not able to find in UPS personnel. I hope this store can improve customer care. Starting from that point, it won’t be...
Read moreI cannot begin to fully communicate how awful the people are working in this location. I wanted to mail a small package to the UK and was told that it was $149. I was so shocked I asked him to repeat the cost. He told me once again it was $149..! When I told him how I had previously paid around $30 to mail something similar, he then told me that in fact it WAS possible to send it for $34 via USPS. It was only after pushing back on the outrageous price did the person admit that in fact there was a much cheaper way to mail it at the location for $34. His colleague said that it was a "UPS store". Even though they obviously have a contract with the US Post Office, I was not informed of the much lower cost that was available. I decided not to mail at that location. (BTW..Regular medium sized packing boxes are priced around $22 EACH...Even though you can get one for around $3 at U Haul locations like the one I did a couple of miles away.) This store is outrageously expensive...!! And the staff are not upfront at all regarding various options available to customers. Remember to always ask for pricing OTHER than UPS when...
