I’ve been shopping at Lakewood since middle school and I’m a big anime fan so this store will always catch my eye when I visit but I noticed a pattern from my personal experience and my friends who are all black anime fans that have went inside this store, we felt either really uncomfortable or unwelcome 9/10 times. I wanted to bring this up here because yesterday I witnessed discrimination against two black kids around middle school age walking by the store. I heard one of the kids say that they want a snack and spotted snacks placed right at the entrance of the store, they were browsing and one picked something up because I heard it ruffle and I’m standing near the cashier counter who immediately came from behind it, to go up to them and asks if they need help…then tells one kid he can’t hold whatever is in his hands and she doesn’t say this loud enough for me to hear but I heard him say “i can’t hold this?” Like he was repeating it as a question from a statement but then I hear the lady say “no you can’t touch anything unless you’re buying”, which was a complete lie!!!!! I was in the store with my boyfriend for at least 30 minutes and was browsing and touching items all over the store and seen a few different people do the exact same thing she was silent the entire time. It was beyond disappointing, disheartening and embarrassing, to watch how uncomfortable she had just made those boys just for stepping into the store that strategically places food at the entrance to attract kids and young people??
Never ever in my life have I been told I can’t touch anything unless I buy it in that store and I’m 21, mind you I’ve been in there a million times since middle school. There is no way this should be acceptable behavior towards any person that sets foot in that store. I would strongly suggest the store owner gets better placed cameras to be able to watch their products more effectively from the checkout stand if they are so worried about their snack inventory which is probably some of the cheapest stuff in...
Read moreThe main reason why this store gets a 1 star is due to the owner being extremely rude. I saw a figure inside its box and I noticed no price on it, there wasn’t any “Do not touch” signs above this section of figures (there was other signs in different parts of the store so I was paying attention) so I decided to pick it up with both hands to look on the bottom of the box but still no price. The owner started yelling at me from the register, making everyone in the store stop what they were doing and stare at me. She kept yelling after I put the boxed figure down and told me that I couldn’t touch them despite there being no sign. She walked up to me and forced me to look at the same figure in a different location to buy it if I was interested. This same figure still didn’t have a price but at least in this section there was a sign to not touch the ones under the sign. Being yelled at and embarrassed by the many people in the store was not needed, just put up more signs so that the customer knows what you can and can’t touch. The figured was overpriced anyways (almost double the price) when I asked her how much it was. If you want the owner of the store to be persistent in trying to sell you something and to look at you constantly to make you feel like a thief then be my guest and go to this store, BookOff sells similar items and does not make you feel...
Read moreThe manger is just BAD. Absolutely bad customer service and I say that because I was trying to get a job and my sister was just looking at some stuff and she grab something and put it on top of a blind box. After we left, we get a call 10 minutes later that I got a saying we wanted a interview with me so I went back to her store. She starts off by saying “where’s your friend is she 18” I said no she’s my sister she’s a minor then she said the my sister stole something and saying that she checked the camera and she called security. My sister comes in and she’s came right infront of my sister and says she stole something and they were other people in the store looking while the store boss was speaking loud at my sister trying to embarrass her. So I said she didn’t steal anything and my sister says to her that the hello kitty chain was on top of this blind box. So I told her if you saw the cameras then you would’ve saw that she put it back, she tells me “ok leave” with a bad attitude, I asked her to apologize to my sister and she did but with a bad attitude. Everyone else in the store saw what happened was looked at her bad. I hope she’s embarrassed, I feel like was racially motivated because she waited till we left to check the cameras. I don’t recommend going...
