Oki Japan — Restaurant in Lakewood

Oki Japan is okay with me.

Exercising the wallet with some After Christmas shopping at the Lakewood Mall, we needed something in our bellies to rejuvenate us. Having not been to the Lakewood Mall in a long time, we noticed the old second floor food court became an arcade, with the main food court being near Target. Juggling between Panda Express & Oki Japan, the free samples of chicken teriyaki did the trick & wooed me over.

Oki Japan offers various meat w/ teriyaki, sushi / sashimi, gyoza, among other items. We decided on ordering the eel roll & chicken teriyaki plate.

Eel Roll ($4.69) - At first, I thought that was a steal for an unagi roll, but watching the woman preparing my sushi roll, my heart sank & my tummy frowned as I saw my diminutive roll being made before my eyes. Tiny & akin to sushi at a cheap Chinese buffet, this left me hungry & wanting.

Chicken Teriyaki ($5.69) - Here's where Oki Japan redeemed themselves......a little. Generous amount of chicken with steamed vegetables over white rice. Hot, filling & better than having a pretzel or pizza. Not gourmet by any means, but good for mall food. The price didn't hurt the wallet, either.

Service was okay. Being the day after Christmas, things were quite busy. The wait for the eel roll was longer because the teriyaki chicken is cooked in mass quantities to accommodate the crowds. There are a few booths to sit inside, but we sat near the children's play area.

As long as you don't order the sushi, then Oki Japan is a good option when the hunger pains strike while shopping at the Lakewood Mall. For not much scratch, a hot plate of teriyaki can fill you up. Next time, I'm going for the beef...

We always buy the chicken plate almost every other weekend, if not every weekend. I always thought customer service was poor, but the tasty plate kept us coming. I have 4 young children, so sometimes we would order 2-3 plates and my kids would share since their portions are pretty generous. Earlier today, the female cashier commented "Two plates for six people?" I thought that was such a RUDE comment. My family and I have been eating here for the last 2-3 years and for her to make such a comment to a loyal customer was extremely impolite and unprofessional. In addition, the "chefs" aren't very friendly, either. My husband and I just decided to never go there again. We have decided to eat elsewhere in the mall, so Oki Japan has lost...

Oki Japan is very tasty and at a great price. We were there before the circus, which was on the lot and had a nice meal. It is located inside the Lakewood Center Mall.

The place is small and does a lot of to go and delivery. There are some nice places to sit and the mall area right out front as a lot of seating.

We had shrimp tempura and rice which was great and some sushi. The sushi was good, not great. We will have something else next time. Their beef bento box was really good and their vegetables are steamed nicely and they are super tasty. Their chicken teriyaki is excellent.
