It's always an unpleasant experience leaving this market. I understand this is an independent local Asian market, however this market is very non-transparent with the prices of their items. 98.5% of their items are NOT LABELLED with the price. Terrible business practice! Basically most items are never labelled with the actual price, you don't know how much items are until the cashier rings you up.
The last time I was there, my bill came up to $85+ after buying a handful of grocery items. I've made this complaint about their non-transparency on food item costs more than 3 times, and the cashier just says to bring it over to check. They need to label the price of their items before I step into this market again.
IF you are looking to buy any Chinese or Korean dumplings or frozen items, basically your local American grocery store like Dillon's, the larger ones, offer them at a better value and bigger quantity size. Just because this an Asian market does not mean it is offered at a cheaper price. I would have been fine with that, and supported them even if they were more expensive had they actually priced their items, instead of leaving most of everything unmarked. Very...
Read moreIt is great to have oriental market near my place! I was thrilled to find this place and I am enjoying to go there again and again! They have varieties of snacks form Taiwan which now I am obsessed with and varieties of ingredients such as frozen food and seafoods and they even have live Lobsters! I found that they are slightly expensive than where I usually go but I wouldn’t complain about it. Cause I don’t have to drive 40-50 minutes to get what I want! One thing I hope for is, however, I could see the price on the products. The owner said they are working on it and I could see that. But still lots of thing were missing price. Oh and did you guys know that this mart used to be on 9th? They moved and expended the place which I really appreciated of them reopening!
UPDATE!! This place now looks like very empty and price tags aren’t still on. Mostly over priced than other Asian markets. Haven’t been there ever since I over paid the 5 lb rice...
Read moreTheir foods rarely have prices and labels. It's very difficult to find what you need. Products are constantly out of stock - it's honestly quite frustrating. Very little fresh options and I had seen mold in some of their ginger and garlic before. And please watch out for expired items!!
I understand it's probably the only Asian market in Lawrence, and the next closest asian stores being in Overland Park/Topeka, so there might not be a lot of options. But the quality of food, service and overall store maintenance are a whole separate conversation and are something they can work on…
If there's ever another option in Lawrence, I'd go there in a heartbeat. Until then, I try to do a monthly haul from Pan Asia Supermarket in OP, and only ever grab one-off items I need from F Mart as an...
