Well I am editing my last review.
Been in this place a handful of times, so recently I went back because I heard a handful of their old employees opened a new pawn shop, so figured I would see if the customer service had changed. Let me first start off by saying the young man that helped me was extremely polite. Unfortunately he isn't a pawn broker, he is basically a salesman. So the story goes, I went in looking for a .22 revolver for a fathers day gift, they had a few used, great I thought to myself, until I saw the price, $169.99 + tax on a USED heritage 22 revolver. So I offered the guy $150 CASH out the door, he looked at me really weird like someone hasn't tried to haggle with him before. By doing simple math the transaction would have came out to $184.74 at their price, I'm asking for a whopping $34.74 off a used item in a pawn shop. They turned my offer down after the young man had to go consult with what I assume is the manager (thin up top, looks really angry), So the manager offered (well told the young man to come tell me that) a 10% discount, awesome you paid the taxes for me. I even tried to joke around with the guy when the computer wouldn't allow the 10% discount and said "oh yeah, I bet its supposed to be 20% to make it work" and laughed and smiled at the guy. If looks could have killed I would have been a dead man. He barely acknowledged me other than to glare at me. This guy is a grade A prick.Granted I still purchased the firearm, not really thrilled about it but still did because I was there and it was "convenient". Then the guy asked how I was paying for it and I gave him my Visa card, "wait I thought you were paying cash", yep I would have if you would have given me the deal, but you can eat the 3%-5% charge. I will never be coming back to your business after this last deal. I'm sorry but if you don't have $35 in wiggle room on the item (which I know you do, I would almost bet the price of the gun that you gave some guy MAYBE $75 for it). Anyone that goes here, I wish you the best of luck because what the sticker says, you're paying it. S&S Tactical will be getting ALL of my local...
Read moreWe have sold a few things to this pawn shop, but not again after today.
My fiance went in here to sell a Cry Baby guitar pedal and a 14k gold pendant.
They had to test my necklace to ensure the gold is real. However, he only tested the chain the pendant was attached to (which was a fake gold chain I had grabbed quickly out of my jewelry box to attach to it so we wouldn't lose it). They refused the sale saying the entire necklace saying it was all fake gold.
So now, I have a ruined chain with a black spot on the center of it because he didn't test the chain in a hidden area like a clasp, and they weren't supposed to test the chain period because I WAS NOT SELLING THE CHAIN. Then was super rude saying the entire thing was fake and didn't give my fiance a chance to tell him that we weren't selling the chain, and that we knew it was fake. I called to ask why and he said they don't accept pendants without the chain. That's fine, But you need to tell people that BEFORE you RUIN the jewelry they aren't even trying to sell you. THIS PENDANT IS 14K GOLD AND I SOLD IT TO THE NEXT PAWN SHOP FOE $50 DOLLARS BECAUSE THEY TESTED THE APPROPRIATE ITEM!
After accusing us of trying to sell a fake necklace, they undercut the price on the Cry Baby even though they were just saying how they sold 3 of them this week. We turned down their low-ball offer because they were so rude and ruined my necklace chain.
Do not go here to buy or sell. They low-ball you and then sell your item like it is new. And ruin the items they won't...
Read moreI stopped by Jayhawk P&J today while shopping around Lawrence for a concealed carry handgun. It was the worst service I received anywhere. I had just begun looking over the firearms on display when the attendant asked (and I quote) "Is there something you want!?" ...imagine the tone you'd take with an unwashed creeper staring unblinking at you on a subway only slightly ruder. I understand that any store needs to be careful selling handguns, which is why I made sure to be presentable (polo, boots, nice jeans) and polite. When I told him I was in the market for a decent small-frame carry gun for self defense, preferable in 38 acp or 32 but with wiggle room; I was cut off around 38- , "We dont have any of that." Me: "Do you have anything in.." Him: "I just said we don't"
I suppose if your a self-loathing masochistic glutton, who enjoys being interrupted you might enjoy Jayhawk Pawn and Jewelry. Otherwise, just go to any of the other 3 pawnshops in town. They were all MUCH more polite and took my information so that they could let me know if anything came into stock. 1...
