I checked this store out a few times and their prices are set way too high. The last time I went inside, I asked about Game Gear games. The owner did not know what Game Gear games were and had to call the other owner and Google it. I don't expect everyone to know everything, but I did find that surprising for a store with a retro video game section. Finally he pulls out a shoebox under a pile of junk from behind the counter with some Game Gear games in it. None of them had price stickers on them so he wanted to charge me exorbitant, full eBay prices and wouldn't haggle the price. I found that surprising for a product that clearly wasn't moving but was kept in a shoebox under the counter.
Anyways, I was in the area again recently and thought, well, I'll give the store another chance. The same store owner and some random guy were sitting by the store front entrance, puffing away on vape pipes and making this big cloud of nasty chemical smoke. I had no interesting in walking through that to get inside, so I nope'd out of there and didn't even bother.
Too bad, I love retro gaming, but Masters of the Toyverse is a hard pass for me.
Edit: After reading the business reply, I want to make it clear that one of the people vaping right in front of the Masters of the Toyverse front entrance was the store co-owner. I recognized him from the "what's game gear?" interaction I had with him last time I was in the store. It was NOT random people from the vape shops nearby. The defensiveness, lack of accountability and claims that I am lying/providing inaccurate information just shows how little this store values its customer's experience. They would rather get into a flame war on Google than accept feedback, make matters right and provide a better experience for a potential customer. I absolutely made the right decision to not give them my...
Read moreI would give this story a 0 out of 5 stars if I could but that's not possible. This story does have some pretty cool this to offer but the prices are petty high. I tried to sell some Pokémon to them that was all in high value. After they looked at my cards for quite some time they went into a private room to discuss the price they were going to give me. Note that the cards they wanted, if sold on eBay would have gone for over $200 in the condition they were in. After they came out of the room they said they could give me $50. I was really shocked at what they said. I also tried sell them action figures and comics that weren't high in value but around $60 and they offered me only $15 or $20 store credit. I'm absolutely disgusted about both the situations and will not be...
Read moreMy time at Toyverse is always a great one. I come here frequently to browse retro video games and action figures, and I always leave with a smile on my face and a bag of goodies. The staff here is knowledgeable and very friendly. They’d much rather answer your questions and help you find what you like than stand around and mind themselves. The selection of wares is also varied and interesting. I find stuff I never knew existed, as well as childhood favorites, every time I go there. I try to get to this store two or three times a month because being here makes me that happy. Thanks to the staff for engaging with me about comic book and video...
