I needed an appraisal on a ring I recently purchased and wanted to go somewhere other than where I bought the ring for an unbiased opinion. I shopped around and many of the places were going to take a week or two and cost what seems to be a standard of $150/hr. I called this jeweler and mentioned I would like an appraisal and told them I needed to get my ring insured and would like the appraisal as soon as possible. The lady who answered was the owner and she told me she could do it today, they charge $150/hr, and it would be a two hour job. I paid in advance at just before 3pm and she told me not to expect it back until 5:30pm. I went home and at 335pm I get a call asking for my email address so they can send over the appraisal. I provided it to them and at 3:54pm they sent it over….just over an hour later. It honestly felt like they waited 20 minutes before sending the appraisal so it would be just over an hour and they could charge me for two hours of service. I looked at the appraisal and noticed that it was missing two of the diamonds (in the undercarriage of the ring) so it wasn’t like I was paying for a through job either. I called back about the descripency and they said they had the appraiser left and they had the wrong number for me even though they had called me 20mins prior. When I came in to pick up my rings I expressed my concerns about the appraisal and the service cost and the lady there was immediately defensive of her work stating she charged me two hours of service because I was moved to the front of the line and they rushed to complete it today. This was not what the owner had originally said at all. She told me they charge by the hour and that it was a two hour in depth service. In reality I was up charged for convenience which is fine but absolutely should have been made clear and transparent so I could have made an informed decision. It’s also not a stellar experience when the appraisal comes back wrong and she had all the information about it since it’s a lab diamond and has a serial number that she showed me she just looked up the information for. Just to, I guess top off my experience, the owner comes back out as we are wrapping up and quite literally while smiling and clearly delighted she tells me “it looks like you over paid for your ring!!!” While I am happy they were able to get it done same day it’s really too bad. I buy a lot of jewelry, they had beautiful pieces, and I even bought a pretty gold maple leaf but I will not be going back because i feel mislead and was weirdly taunted by the owner.
Edit-response: As stated above I do note that the charge was due to express turnaround for the service, however, i was not initially informed of this which is why I was upset. I also have several witnesses to the initial call where it was only mentioned that you could do it same day and it was an hourly charge- nothing about an express or convenience fee. My husband was actually shocked it was 300 and asked me why because the owner stated it was 150 an hour on the phone. I told him it was because they were going to do a two hour job & if it really was there’s no mistaking two diamonds. The appraisal btw is still wrong and says 38! I could also see by your immediate defensiveness that my concerns were not going to be addressed properly. It’s true I told you I was having a bad day to ease tension since I could see you had quite the attitude when questioned but in reality I was having a bad experience and I’m not a confrontational person. I would also LOVE to see the video and audio of the interaction between me and the owner when she giddily told me I overpaid- again I have a witness to this comment and even responded to her nasty and rude comment with “well I guess there’s always an up-charge!” I love supporting small businesses and I hardly post reviews, especially negative ones, because I’m not that person and know how damaging a bad review can be but don’t try to gaslight your customers. You seem to like to use this “surveillance” tactic whenever someone has a negative...

It was always a pleasure to visit a Tiffany & Co— when we lived near one —and Pearce Jewelers is the closest service experience you will find to this in Lebanon, NH and likely in surrounding areas. We are enamoured by the high-touch service of the staff here. The various jewelry collections are gorgeous. Modern jewelry enthusiasts will also not be disappointed here, in terms of selection. You can even find vintage jewelry at Pearce. We were charmed by a carving in a cameo wearing a tinier cameo. The white-glove service here cannot be overstated. My grandmother’s precious jewelry and some other beloved items were ran over on Route 89, and the team rallied to find what could be repaired. The staff are quick to offer cost options, as well. For instance, to replace a lobster claw clasp we need to pay over $200. But for one of our bracelets, the $40 clasp option was just fine. They will repair your jewelry and watches on site. If the repair is more complex, there is a watch technician who will pick your watch up on the weekend and return it the following week. And when I did this, there was a precise invoice prepared with a photo of my watch on the print-out. Very much appreciated the process, here, which counterbalances the repair turnaround time of one week. From the moment you walk in, as soon as the staff are able to greet you, your needs come first. And there is an hospitality bar with coffee, tea and soft drinks available. The overall space and ambience are clean and beautiful. I have not found this level of genuinely luxurious service - defining 5 Stars - in the surrounding area nor beyond. It’s not to say that folks in NH and Vermont aren’t nice. From a service perspective, they are usually friendly, efficient and competent. But at Pearce Jewelers, you are walking in to a high-end,...
Read moreNot a good experience. I see they have now changed their website to 'call for price', but this screenshot is what I originally saw a few weeks ago on November 11th when looking to order this ring priced at $1,625.
When I stopped by, the sales associate was nice, but said she didn't know the price and had to call Jordan, who had apparently already given a price of $2,200 for the same ring to my fiance over text. I asked why there was such a huge discrepancy between the website and what the ring actually cost. Plus, why did the other sales associate not know the price until calling Jordan? Wouldn't it be the same price regardless of which sales associate showed the same ring? That made me feel like something was going on. Then, to explain the huge jump in price, they said the price of gold has gone up.
They did not want to confirm the name of the ring at first and I had to ask multiple times to make sure it was the match to my engagement ring (which was purchased from Pearce). I asked if they could do better on the $2,200 and they said no. That's fine, I figured it was worth asking since the price online was off by $575.
Once they confirmed the make and style I left and did some research. I found the exact same ring, same company ArtCarved, at another family owned store for $1,375. That store had a website that was 100% accurate. There was no 'price of gold' extra charge. I felt like my fiance and I were being taken advantage of at Pearce. We nearly overpaid significantly. $2,200 vs $1,375...a $825 mark up for the same ring?
The whole experience left me feeling like we were overcharged on the original engagement ring and nearly taken advantage of again. We trusted this store and wanted to stay local, but I guess we should have done some research first.
Now it looks like this review...
